So there have been zero updates on the truck since my last one on here. I haven't been real motivated to do anything with it other than drive it. I will be playing baseball this summer in the New York Collegiate Baseball League for a team in Sherrill, NY which is approximately 12 hours from home which means I will not be keeping the truck a whole lot longer. I am trying to decide between getting a MKIV Jetta or a 1st gen Xterra. I would love an Xterra just because I know if I get something without 4wd I will miss it bad, but also driving two hours to and from school about every weekend gets rough on gas so a Jetta would also be nice. What do you guys think?

Hey Peewee i got the same trunk as you but the king cab version. I will be sad to see you lose your truck since i follow alot of your post on what i should do to mine. I owned a mk4 jetta before I got this trunk and I would not want to go back. The Jetta was expensive as hell to keep up there were a ton of electronic problems and such and it went through a qt of oil a month (my VW mechanic says its just that way) and was expensive to keep up with synthetic. but it may be different for you since you seem to know alot more about cars than I.

Also what did you end up doing to your airbox? did you put on the universal filter?

Which year Jetta did you have? From what I hear the first couple years of mkiv's had a lot more issues than the later years, but that's how it is with every vehicle. My truck has actually been going through about the same amount of oil for the past few months but it does have almost 165k on it so I can't really complain too much.

I never really did anything else with the airbox. I actually put the stock one back on before I went offroad with the truck a while back because I didn't want any water or mud to get in there and have left it on since then.

Thanks for the kind words and I will also be sad to see the truck go but it doesn't get good gas mileage and has almost zero power(not the best combination lol).

i had a '00. i think you are right on the later models being better. but so far my '98 has been kind to me.

i get like 20mpg now and the jetta got like 25 + more oil. i live in Honolulu so it is all city miles(cant drive too far with out traffic or a light). so i fill up about the same amount.

and if i may ask why a Jetta mk4 of all cars?

I'm not completely set on that car. I have just always really liked them for some reason and there are a lot of nice ones in my price range. I have also found a few Acura RSX's and '07+ Sentra's that are also in my range. I am not sure what I will go with when it's actually time to make the decision, it will probably just decide what I can find at that time.

The truck will be dent free, have fresh paint, a complete front bumper, and polished headlights on Saturday when I get it back from the shop. I'm not even going to recognize the little fella with a bumper on it. It hasn't had one for about 2 years.
Did you get a new bumper or one out of a junk yard? Also if you don't mind saying how much was it to get it fixed? I haven't had a bumper in a few years either.

Well I finally got it in the shop to get that dent fixed from this past summer and my dad(who took it in for me while I was at school) just told the guy to order the plastic valance and install it. I think for parts and labor he charged us $200. As far as I know it is just going to look like the stock bumper. I am going to head home right now to pick it up and bring back to school so I can snap a pic of it when I see it.

The frontier may no longer be my dd. My dad got a new car which left his 4runner open and I will be driving it to New York on Monday where I will be playing baseball all summer. We are keeping the truck but I think it will probably be sitting for the most part until my little brother gets his license in about a year. I moved my stereo from the truck to the 4runner today and took the sub, amp, and most of my other stuff out of the truck for the summer. I will probably be switching the cb, wheels, and tires to the
4runner if I end up keeping it but there's no telling.

Hey no crying in my thread, Dave-o. The frontier has been hibernating in the driveway for a while now. I still drive it on occasion when I come home from school. My dad has been using it some also when he needs to haul stuff. I have moved the wheels/tires and stereo to the 4runner. I took all of the audio stuff out of the truck and traded the amp to a friend for another stereo that I put in the truck. My younger brother got his learner's permit in October and I have been trying to teach him how to drive a manual, but he still hasn't even figured out the proper way to drive an auto without slamming on the gas and brakes. He will eventually inherit the truck.

As much as I loved driving the frontier, I didn't realize exactly how uncomfortable a regular cab frontier was until I started driving the 4runner. I am sorry to tell you guys that I absolutely love my 4runner. It has more power, it is much smoother to drive, it has more room, and it has more comfort features. I only wish it was a manual, but I can handle that. The mod bug I caught on this forum did not go away with the transfer of vehicles as I am still constantly looking for things to change on the 4runner. I have already upgraded my audio system and added 2 Audiobahn 10's that my buddy sold me and also modified my air box. Simple stuff, but it marks the beginning of the modding for the vehicle. I will get some pictures at some point.

I want to thank everyone on this forum for the countless hours of help that you have given me. My knowledge of how a vehicle and an engine works came from all of you guys. I will continue to come back to this forum and check out everything.
