2nd gen does not have torsion bars and to my knowledge, nothing from the 2005+ swaps over to the first gen. With enough money, I'm sure you can make anything work though.

D'oh, I was worried about that. Thanks for the response!

BTW, I see you have a 2002 in your signature line - have you upgraded the suspension on it? If so, what did you go with? I'm having a hard time finding upgraded replacement parts for my 2001. It's still stock with 192K+ on them.

I have not done anything with my truck, just preventative maintenance and maintenance items on it. I originally was going to use it for some weekend off road adventures, but I ended up modifying my 2011 Pathfinder instead since I have 3 small kids also. I have done a full front suspension refresh with all Mevotech arms, Bilstein 4600 shocks, and new Timken inner & outer wheel bearings in the last three years. I'll be swapping out the KYB rear shocks for a pair of Bilstein 4600 shocks later this year also. I was thinking about installing Sway-A-Way torsion bars with a pair of 4x4parts UCAs, but probably won't happen anytime soon.

The interchangeable parts between the 1st gen Frontier and 1st gen Xterra are infinite. For the body and interior, imagine a line drawn along the back of the front seats and and everything forward is the same or interchageable. Engine and drivetrain is all the same and front suspension is the same. We also have like drivetrain and suspension parts with all the hardbody years(pickups and pathfinders) and the tailgate is interchangeable with the hardbody tailgate too. 3rd generation Pathfinder with the 3.3L also has like engine components and few like drivetrain parts.

Please note when I say parts are interchangeable there are a few exceptions, the biggest being that most drivetrain parts are not the same between the 4cyls and 6cyls. The difference in engine components goes without saying.

I don't know if you have seen my project but I think you would enjoy this, the Nissan Fronterra... I did an Xterra front end swap and then went with fiberglass all around.

What all did you need to do the X front end swap? Does it bolt right up or do you have to modify it? I've been looking for bulge style fenders (fiberglass) but can't find anything for a first gen frontier

I believe everything bolts right up. Depends on if you have a 98-00 or an 01-04.
00-01 X will work for 98-00 Frontier
02-04 X will work for 01-04 Frontier

Use the search feature for "FRONTERRA" there's a few threads on here

Yes. Many, many parts. I'm the self proclaimed interchangable parts expert. What is it you are wanting to swap?

Can a 2002 motor fit in a 1997 Nissan hardbody and every match up including plug ins

The '97 would have a KA24E engine in it. Assuming you are referring to the KA24DE engine in the 2002 Frontier, it will fit and bolt up to the transmission, but the wiring and connectors will mostly be different. You would be best to swap the engine, harness and ECM to the '97. You would also need the air cleaner and a number of other things.

Hardbody parts are also swappable to a point. Nissan didn't even change the rooflines from Hardbody to Frontier if that says's anything.
Hi! I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra SE and was recently in an accident. I only have 64k miles on it so I want to fix it up. The body of my car has the most damage. Do you know if I could switch my hood with a 2000 Nissan Frontier’s? It’s the same color so I was hoping it was possible :)

Mentioned earlier is the Hollander Interchange Manual. But you can check for this at your local library and if you're lucky, they'll have it. Pricey, but some libraries invested in this set years back. No longer in print but for 1st gen trucks, this resource is GOLDEN. I drive about 15 miles to a neighboring library where I open it up and take dozens of photos per visit. If I recall, the engine parts volume weighs over 5#.

p.s. if anyone wants pages I collected for a 1983 Nissan 720, holla. I no longer need them. Sold my baby after 30 yrs of reliable service.
