Dont know if you looked up these companies.
I'm a big fan HKS and Tomei. I have used both on my Skyline.

I hear you man.

You bought the knock off solely because it was a cheaper product. I understand and agree that there really is not much high tech in an intake pipe. But by doing so, it advocates and promotes design stagnation by not caring about the company that really did the work.
What would the final $ of the Tomei's be shipped? I like the idea. You should really check out Nissan 2009 370z Coupe and 2003 - 2008 350z Coupe Research, Reviews, Specs, Photos, Prices, Forums, and more and search to see if they have a camshaft comparison thread. Granted its a totally different engine, but it should put you within the ballpark of what you're trying to achieve; maximum output.
My hookup, Fujii Dynamics, died of cancer a year ago.
I still have friends that can get stuff over there.

If that's the case you should pursue (at minimum) a total price quote. But the Tomei's cam specs (lift/duration) are similar to that of which is sold here stateside. I'm not trying to sway you from HKS/Tomei, but it might come out to be more economical (cost+wait time vs potential benefit of japanese parts vs american) to use what is available around you. I know when I pull the trigger on it I will need new chains/tensioners/valve springs+cups and in that case I'm better off building an engine.
Most likely the advertised price, maybe a little lower.
Shipping is not all that much, $60 max depending on weight and insurance. But I'm getting the hookup through my military friends.

whats good for one can be bad for another, alot of the big guys started out the same way, by under cutting the competition with pretty much the same product. the boat shop i used to work for got in business by buying a boat from the competition copying the hull for the most part and making small changes. started out cheaper than the competition but got bigger and bigger made a name for themselves and got some world championships under the belt and ended up one of the more expensive top names in the industry.

helping out the little guys from time to time is how you keep the big guys in check. forces them to step up there product to keep the business
good point.
Look at the Japanese motorcycles.

That's still not bad at all. $60 to have the exact part you want and to know it's roots and where it has come from will 'bring much pride to you'. :) You would still need to utilize a tuning facility to gain the max potential of said cams, though I'm sure you know that (but it needs to be factored into the total cost vs output). Imagine the power adder from just having the Tomei sticker on the back though?! :itsfriday:
We have to get tuning or it will generate a fault initiating the CEL for airflow or cam timing errors, correct?

Correct. As informed by RDRFronty, you would get the multiple engine misfire code.
Yes any of out cam oprions will give you the multiple engine misfire SES code. All three of the members on this forum with cams got that code. And all three of the members got the code "tuned" out by Uprev. No big deal.
