Hi guys . I have a 2016 nissan frontier with the v6. Has anyone else noticed oil vapor residue at the bottom of the air filter? I have 9,000 miles on the truck and bought it brand new. i have already changed the air filter once. I have changed the oil twice also. I have not driven the truck hard . This is the first vehicle i have owned that does this. The air filter I use is the OEM nissan filter. Thanks guys

Some oil on the filter from PCV system is normal. A soaked filter usually means blowby gasses & oil are getting past the piston rings and bigger issues are at play. My old Chrysler would pump oil into the airfilter housing since there was ZERO expansion left in the rings.

There is a dark area on the bottom of the filter?
All of my Nissans have done that, when I say all, 5 Frontiers, a Hardbody pick up, Titan, Pathfinder, 3 Quests, Rogue, Sentra, 3 Maximas all of them bought new and none ever ate oil or had any engine or oil related failures.
I’d say all is well, check each oil change and replace filter at least once a year.
Enjoy the truck and welcome to this forum.

When you say bottom of filter you mean where though?

1)The side you see when you pull off cover that's the side that is flat (with gasket around it) ?
OR
2)Pleated section side ?

My P4X with 26,000+ miles on it, found oil residue on the engine air filter.

BTW the front diff expansion vent does not exhaust into the airbox, its straight to atmo, in case anyone was wondering.

RyanD is correct. Also, the PCV vents directly into the upper plenum, and the static vent on the drivers side is part of the intake with the Nissan burger on it so it is also down stream from the air filter.
