Hey everybody, I am in the process of looking for a new key and remote and just wanted to know if anyone has tried this yet.

I know that the DIY is done for a 4 button remote, but there is also a 3 button Smart Key remote.

Ever get any answer on this? Looks like you have an '03. I have an '04. We were sledding this weekend before the plows were out and I lost a key/remote in something over a foot of snow, exact location unknown. (Where I suspected I lost it, a plow came before I could look and deposited about 6 feet of snow...)

As a side question, do you happen to know where the key code is located? I am trying to get a new "original" key made (not cut from an old one).

I may be able to get you a new smart key for $15, from there you would have to go to a dealership and have it cut and programmed. Nissan wants something like $80 for the key alone. What is it for? Spare door key or what?

If you have, or had a NMAC loan the key code is on the contract. The original dealer may have it on file too.

Thanks, fellas. My vehicle does not use a smart key, just a regular one. I was actually hoping to replace the one I lost with an original Nissan key cut by computer, so I would not have to go through the rigamarole of bringing a key to Depot or a hardware store and having them bugger it up 3 times before giving me one that works... But, I guess I can live without another key for the time being. I always have multiple keys on my person in case I do something stupid like drop one in the snow while I have three little girls with me...

Ordered a new remote from here ($39 including shipping for a reconditioned unit, versus $119 from dealer):

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been up here lately.
I never got the smart key because I'm not technically inclined to wire the guts of our remote into the smart key remote.

As for 2004Frontier if you still needed a key, I actually got a new key today at a Nissan dealership near me. Since my original key was old and too messed up to copy, they were able to cut me a new key by just getting my vin number.

And

I decided to take my chances with this since I have an extra remote,
