I’m getting a little fed up with my Nissan’s, I have an 06’ Fronty and 06’ Xterra. Between the 2 of them I have had 4 FSU’s, 2 Timing chains, 1 rear differential, both batteries replaced, Power Windows are going out in the Xterra, and the Frontier has the FSU problem right now again.

The sucky part about the FSU is it was replaced a week ago at the dealership. The day I picked it up I drove it home, about 20 miles away, but before I got home I put gas in it just to make sure they repaired it. Sure enough same issue put $20 in and the needle doesn’t budget. Takes about an hour’s to register. I immediately call the dealership and tell them the issue. I get the “sure bring it in and we will check it” by the time I get to the dealership the next morning the needle had registered the tank. So the service writer tells me “if I don’t see it I can’t fix it” this just pissed me off to a point no I am ready to dump both vehicles and get something else.
I realize that every manufacture and vehicle has its issues, but I shouldn’t have to count on fuel sending units going out, nor should I have to worry about timing guides going bad at some future point. It pisses me off more that the Xterra only has 23,000 miles and the Frontier only has 37,000. What do you guys think, am I just cursed? I’ve had 4 other Nissan’s since I’ve been driving and loved them all. I’ve been a Nissan diehard fan, but now I am just at a loss.

A big bummer for Nissan is that my boss was looking to trade in his 06 Corvette and was looking at the GT-R. But with as many times as he has had to run me to the dealer to pick up or drop off my trucks, he said he won’t even consider them now.

It seems like a 50/50 thing with them. I have had my 05 since new and have nothing bad to say about it with 54K. My parents had an 06 Pathfinder with no problems and I know 2-3 other people with either a Pathfinder or Frontier that love them and I also know a few people that hate them and had problems. A good friend of mine has an 06 Frontier and would like to burn it so it's hard to say anymore...

My two Nissans are a year apart, your are the same years. Unfortunately they share certain items used in both models so you get whacked double. I only had the timing chain issue in one truck. In the other I had the fuel gauge read slow twice but ignored it and it hasn't done it in a year now.

I remember reading a post somwhere in the past about a guy who was having electrical issues to the point of Nissan giving in to a lemon law claim. He came on the forum and said his uncle was going over the truck and noticed a pinched harness under the hood and freed it, fixed it and the truck was perfect. When he took it to the dealer to have a new harness put in they admitted to him that there were other trucks with the same issue and nobody could find the trouble. He was told on another visit to the shop that what his uncle found was the problem in more than a few other trucks and they were grateful that the issue was discovered by his uncle and they were able to satisfy the other people.
My point is, there are shops out there who can NOT diagnose things but just replace whole units. The FSU issue might have something else ahead of it giving the wrong input to the gauge.

Don't jinx yourself! You don't want to having a timing chain problem at 60,100 miles! lol, which by the way, will happen to almost every VQ40 frontier. <Quoted from a nissan master tech.

I am not too worried about it. My truck is paid off and if it happens, it happens. I will most likely get something new once I hit 100K so if I makes it that far I will be very happy.

Try another dealership. My FSU finally went out at 85k miles, so I took it in to a local dealer. They gave me the run-around and basically said they couldn't touch it for another 4 days. I drove an hour away to another dealer and they changed it on the spot, and it was covered under my extended warranty. They didn't give me any hassles at all. Sometimes its all about finding a dealer w/ a good service dept.

Seems no matter what I've bought in the last several yrs. I notice they all have their issues. Doesn't seem to matter the brand or model. I know it's frustrating but I've come to expect it from all manufacturers. It's sad... it's like the auto industry just doesn't give a sh!t anymore. Either that or the quality control folks are busy eatin doughnuts and not watching their people. And as others have said a good dealership can make all the diff. if you're taken care of right.

my buddies first stupid duty lariat 350 was through 2 trannies, the whole front end, and a bunch of fuel system problems in the 2 years he had it. His second one was in the shop 12 times in the first 11 months he had it.

My other buddy has replaced 2 drop ins from blowing his taco diff with a locker, and now the wheel bearings are going out.

It could be the opposite like my brother in law's 2007 Dodge.

The diesel engine runs GREAT without problems... the rest of the truck is simply rattling itself to death with all kinds of electrical problems too, lol

I realize your frustration, but I wouldn't condemn Nissan b/c of two trucks of the same year. <knocks on wood> I've had my '03 Altima with 76k now (i know, it's low, but still 7 years old) with only front end alignment problems. The only thing my '08 Frontier has needed was the front rotors replaced since it sat on the lot almost a complete year. I think you just got a bad batch. I still woldn't blame ya, though, if you went elsewhere.

things braking and malfunctioning and so on is just a fact of life when it comes to owning vehicles from any manufacturer, the only difference is what brakes and whos logo is stamped on it. i dont' know where people get off saying that its gotten so much worse than in the past when it really hasn't in relativity. cars broke in the past and the brake now. the only difference is the shear about of things that go into cars these days has increased so much so if you increase the amount of components then the amount of failures rises too. add into that the number of cars on the roads these days compared to years past and the number of failures goes up with that too. its just like with everything else it takes one person to convince 20 that something is bad because of problems but it takes 20 people to convince 1 that something may be good. people pick out the bad much more than they realize the good. that sucks what happened with you and your trucks but i'm sure for as many people you can find that are ready to swear off nissan you'll find just as many ready to swear off any other company out there

as I mentioned in my op, i realize that every manufactures has it's issues. it just really sucks that for nissan trucks you can almost count on specific failures. compiled with Nissan's poor customer service it's just kind of leaving me with a bad taste for Nissan. Now I am not saying that other manufactures have better service, but I know first hand of a Toyota, Chevy, and Dodge dealers that will bend over backwards to help their customers. Hell I wasn't even driving one other their vehicles but the chevy guy filled one of my tires cause he said it was looking a little low.

I've tried other dealers but get the same piss poor attitude. And since the unit was fixed by one dealer the other dealers won't touch it. So I am stuck going back to the same dealer that couldn't fix it the first time.

I am in no way bashing Nissan, l love my trucks but to have a sending unit replaced only to have it fail that same day again is a bit much.

My family and I have owned 4 Nissans, (Titan, Altima, 2 Frontiers, all of them newer than 2005) we all bought them around the same time. I'm the only one that still owns one.

I will NEVER buy another Nissan again...

Remember, both the vehicles you have are the 2nd year of a completely new vehicle from the ground up. Not that its acceptable, but it doesnt suprise me that those with 05's and 06's have issues as the bugs were not worked out yet.

However, when those issues are still around on current models 6 years later (I believe some have been worked out and others have not) than we have a problem.

I was reading on a 4runner forum about someone who just bought a brand new 5th gen 4runner and have already had the complete front diff replaced due to a whining problem with only a few hundred miles. Yes, Toyota's have problems too.
