Is it me, or do NISMO products look inferior to other aftermarket companies products??? The example I'm using for the comparison is the CAI, since this is the only ACTUAL NISMO product picture I can find for the 2nd Gen Frontier.

Thye nismo does look flimsy, pretty much the only reason i'm not even considering of buyng one. Plus i've heard that they don't perform too well compared to the others.

I agree, it definitely looks like a cheap piece of crap.
but maybe it gives you the same results.
Have you heard of anyone getting one?

Actually, I haven't. They don't seem as widespread or even known about compared to other aftermarket stuff. I was wanting to install all NISMO parts only until I started to see the quality "visually." It may look crappy, but who knows. Maybe they did their R&D and realized that making a seal with the hood and difference in pipe material made little difference? Yah, I'm trying to convince myself that NISMO is the way to go! I thought, afterall, if anyone should know about enhancing performance on a Nissan, it would be NISMO.

I know there is someone on here with a 350Z. He had the NISMO CAI for that and loved it. He actually said that AEM is the manufacturer of the NISMO CAI for the 350Z. AEM is making a Brute Froce intake for the Frontier as we speak.

Nismo CAI

Just wanted to chime in. The NISMO intake may seem or look inferior but I beg to differ. I have one installed on my 2005 CC. I had the exhaust done last September, dual exhaust with flowmaster 40 series muffler. After the exhaust was put on I lost som low end torque, but after the CAI was installed I gained it back and some more. Only took about 25 minutes to install and the sound is "nasty".

olayne, is it possible for you to take some pics. All I've seen is that crappy picture from eBay! I'd love to see it in the engine bay. Where did you get yours? Would you install a NISMO exhaust for your CC if they had one out?

Sure can

I will take some pictures this evening. I actually got the CAI from the local dealership. I like the fact that the intake is from Nissan for Nissan. I chose to go with an outside dealer for my exhaust because the guys in my area are really good. We did not go with the 3in but instead 2.5; he did this before the aftermarkets came out, he knew what he was doing.
With the intake I can now hear the air being sucked into the engine when I hit the gas, awesome.

olayne,

So what does the dealer say about the Nismo CAI and your warranty. I am just
curious bacause so often they say the aftermarket CAI's will void the warranty.
Since all CAI's work pretty much the same how can they aprrove theirs and deny the others?

The dealer hasn't said anything except, "your truck sound great". I have been going to the same dealership for over 10 years and they actually take care of me great. Any aftermarket item that I have had installed has not caused a problem.

I am surprised the Nismo CAI design does away with the Nissan emblem like several
of the other CAI's have done. It is actually a nice looking unit.

I'd like to know if it uses an oiled filter? My service Dept gave me a ration of crap about having a K&N filter because of the possibility of oil fouling the MAF Sensor Seems a little ironic if the "Nissan" NISMO Product used an oiled filter!

your service department sounds like a bunch of uptight asshaoles.
You've put it much nicer than I would, but then again, this is a family forum!

I bought a NISMO CAI last month and haven't had time to put it on. The unit is not flimsy at all. The air box is made of pretty heavy gauged steel. The dealer where I bought it said it "the CAI" didn't come with a warranty, but installing it would not void the factory warranty, unless you are four wheeling through creeks and getting water in the thing they told me.

The way the intake is set-up is almost impossible to get the CAI submerged; that is when you would have a problem. Very nicely put, the "CAI" doesn't come with a warrenty and installing it does not void the truck warrenty.
Binge1, get that thing installed so you can enjoy the power, sound and torque.
