I've had the nismo CAI on for a couple years now and the filter looks really bad. I have recharged it several times and it has now lost most of its shape. Wondering how it has held up for other folks.

Also has anyone replaced the cone filter yet? If so where did you find one and what did you use?

I've been looking for a conical filter with a 3.25" flange and similar dimensions. The closest I have found is this one from K&N.

Part RU-5122 Product Specifications
Product Style: Round Tapered Universal Air Filter
Base Outside Diameter: 5.5 in (140 mm)
Flange Inside Diameter: 3.25 in (83 mm)
Flange Length: 1.625 in (41 mm)
Flange Type: Centered
Height: 8 in (203 mm)
Top Outside Diameter: 4.688 in (119 mm)
Top Style: Rubber
Top Material/Finish: None
Filter Material: Cotton Gauze
Filter Re-Oiling Amount: 1.6 oz (47 ml)
Weight: 1.2 lb (0.5 kg)
Product Box Length: 6.38 in (162 mm)
Product Box Width: 6.38 in (162 mm)
Product Box Height: 11 in (279 mm)

I may give this a try, but would be interested to see what others have found and or tried.

i wouldn't was money on a k&n personally. i have the nismo intake which if you didn't already know is made by aem. its the aem brute force with a paint job and a nismo sticker but the really major difference is that the aem ones come with their dryflow filter which the nismos dont get. the way i see it why spend money on an old tech oil soaked filter that has the potential to get oil vapor on you maf overtime causing poor readings and fuel mileage without the computer even realizing something is wrong. the dryflow uses no oil and is easy to clean. AEM 21-2113DK $51.96 - AEM DryFlow Air Filter - AEM Direct Store theres the filter

if you encounter alot of water in your off road adventures one of these may be a good idea too AEM 1-4007 $31.99 - Air Filter Wrap - AEM Direct Store

thanks, I did not know that. I'd been looking all over the interweb trying to find a replacement and the K&N was the closest I had found. I was going to buy there wrap too, but this is even better. And these never need to be charged?

Do you guys like the standard (red) or the Brute Force (grey) filter? It seems like the standard has more airflow.

My filter is starting to look kinda retarded too. when it's time, definitely going with the AEM dryflow. It's part# 21-2109dk. Exact dimentions of the factory filter.

I have the gray filter. Works great and is easy to clean and doesn't require oil which is the best part. Really the big deal about oiled isn't that they are bad, but most people don't know how to oil them properly so they end up over oiling them which in turn sends oils down the intake tube to stick to the MAS which then heats up and burns out, as well as other possible issues. This is why dealers don't typically like you to have a K&N style filter on your truck/car.

Well I ordered the AEM-21-2109DK DryFlow filter and the AEM-1-4001 Filter wrap. They came in this weekend and went on without a hitch. Thanks again for the info on this filter.

Here is a picture of it installed with the filter wrap. Notice how the water beads on the filter wrap, that's nice :)

(theres no red tint, its grey and even said on the bag it came in 'dry performance air filter - do not oil')

got it from leeparts.com

That's interesting. How long have you had the NISMO CAI that came with "dry filter?"
I put my NISMO CAI on in July 2007 (oil). Replaced the oiled type with dry AEM (21-2109DK) a year later. Problem free. Recently got the cleaning kit and cleaned it. Lots of bug parts. They cling to the filter material. Hard to dislodge.
They sure get loud when "activated!"

Yes they're loud, and I love it haha.
I just installed it about a week or two ago, here's a pic:

true but the aem dryflow filter didn't used to be an option on the nismo version but even though it has been on the aem version. didn't know they changed things and started giving a dryflow with it
