Hi,
I'm going to be getting a 2006 Frontier Crew Cab SE 4wd this summer, and am trying to figure out what it will cost to get it set up the way I like it. This will be my first pickup (be gentle with me) so I'm in the process of learning the lingo and what's available and how it works. Forgive any newbie assumptions.
I'd like advice and recommendations for a few accessories. While I want it to look nice, I'm not looking for a "pimped-out" appearance. I'm too old for that...
Bed cap (what I used to call a "camper shell") - I'm looking for a nice-looking bed cap (not tonneau cover) that more-or-less follows the roof line. My criteria are: hard-side (not fabric), preferably fiberglass or another composite aavailable in colors that match factory paint, easy attach-detach, ventilated (the dogs will be travelling there in warm weather, and cooked dog smells bad), preferably with no drilling or other irreversible mods to the truck itself. Recommendations for make, model, and place to buy, as well as what I should expect to pay, are greatly appreciated.
Bumper protection - I don't plan on doing too much off-roading; this will be primarily a snow vehicle and well-maintaiend unpaved roads. While the stock bumpers look like they should be relatively inexpensive to replace if badly dented (I have no idea if they're cheap or horrifically expensive, advise?), some sort of dent-and-ding protection would be a good thing. I'm not looking for a diamondplate steel pedestrian-crusher (yet), just something keep the chrome unbent.
Suspension mods - being realistic here, most of my mileage will be on pavement. And here in the SF Bay Area, the highways are torn up. In particular, Highway 101 has concrete slabs with seams about every 20 feet, and the 2006 SE CC I rented would start to shake in rhythm to the seams... to the point where you could hear the vibration in the voices of the passengers. Is there some sort of suspension kit that will take the washboard without messing up dirt-road performace? Price/source?
Underbody protection - bash plates and stuff. Any recommendations for a bash plate to protect the expensive bits up front?
I'm unlikely to tow, and the stock motor impressed the heck out of me so I doubt I'll be modding it much. Given that, is there anything else that bitter experience has taught you folks that I should know about?
Thanks in advance!
