Finally got around to installing my auxiliary lights, been puttin' this one off for a while.

Used PIAA 510 ATPs, and a factory "off road lamps" switch from the newer Xterra. I ordered the switch last year and used a meter to find all of the pins, there's six total, 2 for the illumination LED, 2 for the "ON" indicator LED, and two for the actual switch.

Unfortunately, Nissan threw a curve ball on this switch, and it's only a momentary switch so I wired up some relays to latch on/off from a momentary pulse.

I also added some mesh grille to help cover them in the day, it's not much but it doesn't look too bad in the day, I'll try and post up some day time pictures as well as the pin-out for the switch and a diagram on making the latched relays for anyone interested in using this same switch.

shot of the mesh...

close up of the mounting brackets I used...

fully functional illumination on the light switch with the rest of the switches...

fully functional "ON" indicator...

would have been nice to have a harness, but meh :)

and of course, it still needs to be removed, so I added a harness

Nice install...I like that idea. I've been going back & forth on using a Rhino bar or doing something on the top for aux lights...but I don't really want the 'look' off all that crap hanging on the truck. The xterra switch is awesome, too!

is the beam limited because they are so far back? i dont think your getting the full light available because so much of the beam is blocked by the upper and lower part of the bumper. looks cool though and that switch is awesome, where did you get it?

not quite sure if the beam is too limited but it certainly gives me extra light on the mountain pass. I got the Xterra switch from the local Nissan dealership, it's the stock switch on the new Xterra.

and cybereclipse, I'll try and get some pictures of the switch installed tomorrow for ya.

2.0,
I'm def interested in the diagram for your switch/relay. I picked up one of these switches from courtesy parts since I was getting a trailer light harness anyway. I don't mind the extra work on the wiring to get the clean install...I'm just a noob at electrical stuff, so any help is def appreciated!

Ask and you shall receive!

Let me know if you have any questions.

EDIT: I made a few slight corrections in the diagram. Apparently it was a lot later in the night than I recall when I drew it originally and put different wiring for the illumination circuit than what I actually did in the truck. I connected both (+) and (-) sides of the illumination wires to the "Cargo Lamp" switch on my truck to allow dimming and match the Xterra circuit where these wires are in parallel.

Also, here's the pinout of the switch for anyone who wants to know:

(From Top-Down)
1 - N/O contact
2 - N/O contact
3 - (+) backlight illum.
4 - (-) backlight illum.
5 - (+) ON indicator
6 - (-) ON indicator

Do you think those PIAA's would fit in the factory foglight area?

They're really close in size, I'd say yes but you'd have to get creative with the mounting since the OE fogs bolt on through the back.

what did you mount your relays onto?

There's an existing relay bracket high up on the left up in the dash by the vent, I ziptied my relay assembly to that to keep them out of the way.

I really like how that looks. I may have to duplicate. The only thing I might change is the location of the switch. For me, it is a lot of feeling around for the cargo light while driving. I use it to "thank" folks behind me when they let me in.

Awesome.. Can you buy the wire harness as well? Reason I ask is that I have never done wiring this extensive before.
last I checked you couldn't unless you bought the main body harness which isn't cheap...
