JBA Exhaust system Features :

Dual 2" Y-pipe into a 2.5" muffler and Tailpipe with a 3" Tip.

David,

Is this a bolt on system that replaces the restrictive stock "Y" pipe, or do you have to cut the stock exhaust and clamp it on after the stock "Y" pipe? Also, have you installed this on your shop truck? What is the interior sound level like? Any pics? Thanks...

Y pipe back to me means that it definitely doesn't replace the Y pipe just like a cat back exhaust system doesn't replace the cats. I will most likely wait for the first true dual exhaust that completely eliminates the y pipe like I have on my 350Z.

but from the description it says a dual 2 inch y pipe that goes into a 2.5inch pipe, which sounds like it does include the y pipe

Hello Guys,

The New JBA Exhaust system for the Frontier DOES include the Y-pipe.

Complete Y-Pipe Back Exhaust.

Thanks,
David
it's all semantics but wouldn't this then be called a cat back exhaust. which would mean the kit contains all components from, but not including, the catalytic converters. if so, then this is the kit i have been looking for. although, i think it would be more expensive than what the local muffler shop would charge me for customization and installation combined.

Pablo,

I e-mailed David, and the Aluminized system has a stainless steel muffler and tip, but the rest of the pipes are aluminized steel. The full Stainless steel system is just that, all the pipes are stainless steel as well. The difference is the stainless steel normally carries a a lifetime warranty against rust through as the aluminized system will only be warrantied for a specific number of years. I'm not sure exactly what JBA's warranty is for either system, this is just based on what I've seen from other manufacturers. Also, normally the stainless steel mufflers are polished as well, so they are as shiny as the tips!

Well if it replaces the Y pipe than it sounds like the best system out so far for the truck. I definitely wouldn't skimp and would go with the full stainless setup. If no one comes out with a true dual setup, then I will probably go with this one. We need some under truck pics ASAP.

KingTut,

David said they are awaiting the arrival of one of the JBA systems to put on their shop truck (05 Fronty CC) and do some independent testing. I hope that will include some dyno tests to give us a a real-world comparison to the manufacturer's claims. I've also asked for some pics when they get it installed, so hopefully David will come through for us as he has in the past!

We have a system coming in from JBA for our Frontier.

I will post some pics and feedback as soon as the system arrives and we have time to put it on.

It looks to be a really nice system and the price point will be a very competitive one.

As always we will be offering Special pricing to all Club Frontier Members.

JBA Headers are slated to start shipping end of next week.

Thanks,
David

I just spoke with Dave from premier on the phone and #1 I think this new JBA set up is just what most of us are looking for and #2 Dave is a great guy a good source for information. I would encourage all of you to give him a call.

I just bought the Volant intake and Air raid TBS. I hoping this combo with the JBA exhaust will really bring the Frontier to life.

Does anyone know where I can Dyno my truck at - pre and post intake and exhaust ?
I live near Wichita KS

Does any one else think this system with smaller diameter tubing might enhance Low end torque more than say the Gibson 3"

I have the Gibson system on mine, and sound level is good, and there is a slight boost in top end, but it didnt really help out bottom end at all. I added an injen intake, and it also added even more more power from 3k RPM up, but i would like more of a boost in the range where most cruising is done. Say from 2-3k, It would especially help in preventing a few downshifts and aid economy when pulling a light trailer

Smaller diameter tubing does not increase low end torque. I just read that in my SCC mag this week. It is a common misconception that more backpressure increases low end torque but it just isn't the case.

I don't think this system gives more back pressure because it has an open Y pipe and a straight through muffler, so it's actually reducing back pressure. I think the loss of low end comes more from having too big of pipes, thus losing the velocity of the escaping gases. I know there was a distinct loss of low end power when I put the 3" Banks system on my truck, and it all came back when I removed the Banks system and put the stock system back on. I thik this system will work better being as the pipe size will remain essentially stock, but some of the back pressure from the restrictive Y pipe and stock muffler will be removed.

Any updates on this yet? Has anyone bit and bought one before hearing the results from Dave?

I've looked on the JBA website to find more info on the exhaust and headers, and although things sound promising on this post, the website needs some work. . .

I don't think they have been released yet. Last time I spoke with David he was going to get one and install it on their shop truck and do some of their own testing. I'm waiting to hear what he has to say about it. He's not steered me wrong in the past, I trust his his judgement, and I feel he knows exactly what I'm looking for. I think we'll be getitng a realistic assessment from him once they get it and install it.

David,

What type of change did they make? I remember initially they were going with a straight through design. This concerned me a bit because the Banks was a straight through design and I felt a loss in low end torque and it was quite loud! I hope they are opting for a nice mellow sounding baffled design that will retain all the low end torque these engines produce while increasing the HP! Any insights you can share? Thanks again for keeping us updated...
