i have an 02 2.4l frontier, i need to change out the distibutor. my question is do i need to time the truck or does it self time? my neighbor who helps with fixing my vechicles thinks it self times. any help would appreciated.
thanks,
Patrick

Are you changing just the cap and rotor or the entire distrubutor? If it's just the cap, you shouldn't need to adjust the timing - but if it's the whole thing, then it has to be set.

my friend has a code tester and it read i had a missfire in cylinder 2. after running the codes online, i found out that i had to replace the coil pack. i spent many months trying to fine out what a coil pack was, finally i found out that the coil pack is part of the distibutor. so i figured i have to replace the whole thing. any thoughts?
thanks,
Patrick

Oh... I remember your other thread. Most of my thoughts are there. OEM parts, no crap from your local parts store. The only thing I would buy that doesn't come from a dealership would be NGK plugs of the correct part number as specified in your owner's manual. I think you'd also be safe trying NGK spark plug wires - I found some at Spark plug, Spark plug wire, spark plug gap, spark plug cross reference and ignition wires at Sparkplugs.com that are a good deal. I wouldn't touch the distributor until I replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and wires. If the miss is still there one of the other members suggested checking the exhaust manifold (pull the shield and look for leaks) since this was his problem on the same engine.

Heath,
thanks, i think that's what i will try first instead of maybe wasting more money on a distributor. i have changed out the plugs several times and the wires once. the wires i got were ones from napa and they were their brand. and when i changed out the plugs i used a different brand each time thinking that was the issue. i am also going to change out the cap and rotor. i did this on my 97 vw cabrio and it was pretty simple. thanks again, i love this site.... and thanks for your continued help
thanks,
Patrick
