Ok guys,
After freezing our butts off in the snow (because Thursday it was 56 and we were too busy but it snowed 8" on Friday) we kind of got the nerf bars on. It took 3 hours, and we still have questions.
Don't know if there's a difference in the brackets for different brands of bars. I have Aries off roads, and I'm not 100% sure that they sent me the right mounting brackets.

1. On the front passenger side the large bracket is smashing a plastic tube that has some wiring. This doesn't seem right somehow.

2. The body mount bolts - putting these back on proved to be a bit of a challenge. Can't figure out how to get the torque wrench up in there to tighten them back up properly. What did you & how did you torque them to?

Your help is always appreciated!

I'm not sure what you mean by the tube with wiring you're referring to, but that doesn'tt sound good! When I installed the step bars on my truck, the instructions had you attach the mounts to the underside of the truck first and just tighten finger tight. You then layed the step bar on the mounts and attached the bolts that secure the bar to the mounts, again just finger tight. You then aligned everything and snugged them down. I didn't own a torque wrench at the time I installed mine, so I really can't comment on access to the under body bolts, but I had plenty of room to swing a wrench. Again I just went thill they were snug and then an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn. I did sheer off one of the cheap aluminum boly they supplied to secure the bar to the mount, but I don't think you be able to apply enough torque to the under body bolt to cause damage there (unless you used to be a linebacker for the Colts!). Again, I'm not familiar with how the Aries mounts are constructed, but I would think they all would be fairly similar being as most would want to utilize the existing mounting bolts under the body.

Diva Lisa,

That is a wiring harness that follows the frame toward the back of the truck. It may
be for the taillights, etc. It is tight on that side of my truck so I was not able to trace it to the back. I'll try to remember to do that the next time I have it out of the garage.

My Manik bracket clears it by about 1 1/4" so it is not a problem for Manik owners. I
assume it is interfering at the outer edge of the bracket. on my bracket there would be room to reroute the harness toward the frame on the inside of the bracket.

You could also reroute it downward, but I would not do that as it might allow the harness to be hit by something you drive over. I am surprised it is routed on the outside of the frame. If it is the same on the 4X4's it looks like it would be a potential problem
waiting to happen.

Manik uses all steel mounting bolts so unless you get carried away you should not have to worry about it. I did not torque my bolts, but I snugged them pretty tightly and then I have rechecked them a couple of times to see if the settling in of the nerf bars
loosened them any.

Before you crank on the bolts too much you do need to make sure they are not aluminum or you could twist one off.

I wish I could loan you my heated garage and it would make things a lot more simple for you.

Thanks so much you guys!

Paul & Okie, I think the brackets are differnt on the Aries. They don't clear the truck at all they're sort of under. I'm not really worried about torquing them to much, as I am worried about not torquing them enough. I borrowed my neighbor's torque wrench, but it's so long that I can't really get it in where it needs to go. Maybe I'll play helpless and ask the guys at the dealership to check it for me when I go to get my first oil change. :D

Gfronty, Pics would be great so I can see if these are the right brackets. I'll be really mad if they're not because it's too cold to mess with it & hubby is having surgery on Wed so he'll be useless to me... well when it comes to the truck anyway.

My instruction sheet also said 2005 Taco, but I called the place that my husband bought them (best 4 less truck accesories) and the guy was not at the shop so he gave me the number for Aries to call. I talked to Danny at Aries who seems to know what he's talking about 888-800-2743. He said that the nerf bars I got were correct, the instruction sheet is titled wrong. If I were you I would call to make sure you got the right ones. Check out www.ariesautomotive.com you can pull up the "correct" instruction sheet. Though it took us 3 hours to get them on, and I don't really like the way the the front support is smashing wires, and the back braces were a pain in the butt to get on there. Plus there's no room for the torque wrench.
I say "correct" because it tells you to use 2" hardware to attach the front brace, but the picture says to sure 1 1/4" - the picutre is right the written instruction was wrong, because there isn't enough 2" to do it that way.
