I just bought my 2010 CC SE 4x4 a few weeks ago and already damaged it. I had the tailgate down with the bed-extender out all the way to the edge. I was backing into a spot in a parking garage when I felt something hit my back. I get out and find there is a big pipe in the back of the spot and protecting the pipe is a four foot piece of metal that had a vertex sticking out :thatswck:. The pipe protector vertex caused the plastic bumper on the top of my tailgate to be dented. I ordered a new plastic bumper from my dealership and even unscrewed the big rectangular piece of plastic covering my tailgate which also acts to hold down this tailgate cover bumper. Problem is the tailgate bumper also appears to be held in place by double sided tape. Does anyone have any idea how I would be able to remove it so I can replace it with the new one I ordered?
Thanks so much for your help.

Use a heat gun but make sure you keep it at a safe distance and you keep moving it.

Also you should check your hinges since then tend to bend when this happens but if it isn't that bad, just leave it as is and in a month or so, take it in for bent hinges, lol.

Heat gun or hair dryer to soften... and some think fishing line to pull and cut the tape

Have you check your hinges for signs of damage?

Update

Well, I picked up the replacement tailgate bumper this morning from my dealership. It cost $85 for the set of three bumpers although I only used the tailgate one. I used a hairdryer and slowly pulled the old bumper off. Problem was of course once the bumper was off I could see clearly that the actual metal frame was dented as well. Ordinarily I wouldn't care too much since this is hidden under the plastic bumper. Problem was that it was distorted just enough to not allow the double-sided tape to seat properly. Since it is close to the right edge of the bumper, that right part isn't staying down like the rest of the bumper is. Oh well. I guess if it really bothers me in the future I can take the truck to a body shop, have them pull the replacement bumper off and see if they can bang out the dent. Of course I'll then need my 3rd tailgate bumper:crikey:

When you guys were mentioning possible hinge damage-did you mean those long metal rods visible once the big plastic tailgate plate was removed? I wasn't sure what/which hinges you were referring to. One of those long metal rods is a bit bent but I'm not sure if it is affecting anything yet.
Thanks,
Gregg
