I admit to being a braking noob. I'm hard on my brakes, and the '12 Frontier's 4-way discs perform well. I'm hearing a little bit of screech pad and well, it's time to do a brake job.

First on my list is parts. Later in this thread I'll be asking more questions, but right now I'm just looking for input on performance braking. I haul max payload every day and tow on the weekends so I definitely want pad upgrades. I'm hoping my rotors are turnable (never been, to my knowledge) but if they aren't I'd like to upgrade those as well. Slotted and drilled trumps OEM everytime.

I'm not well versed on pad type either. I know some are loud and brake well, and some brake like soft cheese and you never hear a peep. I don't know which types are suited for my application though...

Help a noob out!

I'll need to figure out my parking brake as well, definitely needs adjustment or even replacement it seems like.

*edit* I did do some minor searching on brakes but mostly came up with threads citing specific brake job issues, I.e. stuck pads or bleeding issues...also parking brake issues, which I shall be researching further haha

Do the brakes pulse?
Yes, need to do something with the rotors.
No, put pads on and go.

Get the service manual and set the park brake adjuster in the wheels first before adjusting the nut in the console. Yes, the console adjustment is the quick and easy adjustment. That's why so many people just adjust there. But the linkage at the wheels only has so much travel. Adjusting at the wheels will maintain the full travel of the linkage. It's more work, amazing how many people don't want to do it right and just take the easy way out.

No pulsing. I know better than to cook rotors and boil brake fluid. And I recognize a screech pad when I hear it. I truly believe the rotors will be turnable, but I'm entertaining any upgrade option since I do 150+ miles a day max payload.

Upgrades really depend on how much you are willing to spend. Powerstop produces kits that have the drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads that have already been burned in together. EBC also does a similar kit, but you will need to research what color, i.e. Green Stuff or Red Stuff will best suit your needs. There are many brands out there that have kits and parts available for this. Personally, depending on what I plan on putting on my vehicle I will generally purchase from Autozone (can not beat the lifetime warranty with them) or from Rockauto.com.

I also have a 2012 SV and will need to be doing brakes this year. I do have some pulsing so I will likely go with a Powerstop drilled and slotted kit from Rockauto.com and do the whole thing in one shot.
