I have a 2010 Frontier CC SWB. I need a rack for the bed to put my and a buddy's kayaks on top. They are 12 foot yaks and the factory racks on the LEs look totally useless. I know Nissan makes exactly what I want for the Titan but not the Frontier (who knows why since the Frontier is more the sportsman truck). I need something that looks basically like a ladder rack. What's available or do I need to have it made?

i don't know how wide your yaks are but my 06 cc factory roof rack held both of my yaks with ease. i had a 12' and a 10' yak. worked just fine for me. the only thing i did to modify it was i use tube insulation on the cross bars the the yaks wouldn't slide so easy kinda made a form fit cushion. you can find that insulation at lowes or any home improv store. good luck dude

I've got a Thule attached to the OEM rack. Works good for my canoe and storage box. (the last pic is from a long time ago but shows the box I put up top)

I was worried about the width but it looks like you made it work. I get a little nervous with it sticking out over the sides like that but I guess you would have said something if it didn't work.

US Rack

I went with the Dual Rack from US Rack. I had a bunch of Thule gear from my previous vehicle's rack that I wanted to reuse, and the Dual rack works with both Thule and Yakima gear. The Rail Rack is another rack from the same company that is designed to work with the bed rails on Frontiers.

Another benefit I've gotten from the Dual Rack is that I've been able to carry lumber etc between the square and round bars. Makes tying down super easy.

The company was also easy to deal with. I carry 2 canoes on top frequently, and the standard 66" width wouldn't cut it. I called them up, and they built me a 72" version at no extra charge.

Since you have the LE roof rack, have you considered anything like this:

I just picked one of these up a couple weeks ago and have used it to haul a 10.5' sheet metal brake and some extension ladders, but I used it in this configuration:

It was only $30 from Harbor Freight...
Truck Bed Extender

Just an FYI, the one that HF actually had in the store was not identical to the one on the website (they source from all sorts of Asian manufacturers)...mine only has about 7 inches of adjustment. In the ladder rack configuration, it fits damn near perfectly level on the lowest setting with the factory roof rack. In the bed extender position on the lowest setting it's perfectly flush with the floor of the bed. on the highest setting it lines up pretty well with the top of the wheel wells.

I know sometimes HF stuff is garbage, but this looks like it'll do enough for what I need and without seeing other manufacturers stuff in person to see how thick the metal is, the design is, for all intents and purposes, identical.

Many other vendors sell their designs for any where from $100-150 so I figured it'd be worth taking a $30 gamble and it's been great so far.

So I am back again. I have been able to get away with tying down in bed for one yak or using hitch mounted bed extender for two yaks. I sold the yak to get a 15 footer. Where are the roofracks at now?

I went w/ Yakima Outdoorsman & the Dry Dock. I just remove the Drydock when not in use, but leave the Outdoorsman on all summer.
Forgot to add I believe someone was trying to sell the sliding Titan rack a few months back. They live in Jersey I think.

NC, whats the model num for your thule rack brackets? everything im seeing attaches to the cross bars and not the linear bars like yours. additionally, im taking a trip in june and am trying figure out how to place both a 15' (3'w in middle) canoe, and 14' yak (30"w in middle) up top. i realize i will have to find extended cross bars and a hitch mounted hauler like the goal post for some stress relief off of the roof rack. Would attaching a yak rack to it so the yak stands on side rather than sitting flat, be a better idea. forgive my ignorance as this is the first large overhead haul ever made to date for me. thanks buddy, your insight is greatly appreciated!!

I know this is old but to update, I went with the Dual Rack from US Rack and could not be happier. I use Malone Seawings on it and have no problem carrying around two 16ft kayaks with plenty of storage in the bed for essentials.
