I have a 2000 Frontier Automatic with a KA24DE 4-cylinder. I'm planning on installing a transmission cooler inline with the radiator. I noticed the trans cooler hoses connect to a rectangular block on the passenger side frame rail, then another set of hoses goes to the radiator. Does anyone know this "block" is or does? Is this a thermostat?

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, mounted on the passenger side frame rail right below the alternator on my 2000 frontier KA24DE. I'm thinking this is a thermostat for the ATF before it goes to the radiator, not sure of what else it could be. In case you are wondering the bottom cooler lines are coming from the pump, the top cooler lines are the return lines.

it very well could be. probably opens up at a certain temp to let fluid flow through the cooler. if you were planning an aux cooler setup, i would definitely keep it in the loop.
