My Sub Box and Stereo Install -PICS

I spent the last few weeks doing this on and off thus very slowly. I am very pleased with how things turned out. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Sub Box (enclosure): Built completely from scratch less cutting the tree down from the forest!

Sub: KFC-W2512 10"

Few Pics:

Stereo: KDC-MP238 Installed with a Mantra (sp) mounting kit that actually really sucks. I had to modify the crap out of it to fit the stereo in there and have it look nice.

Ipod Device (top): Alpine EX10 Ipod/Bluetooth Audio/Cell Phone Handsfree (bluetooth). Mounted specially so I could remove it whenever I needed to (has a base and the screen comes off). Works great! Bluetooth audio streaming is awesome, the cell phone feature works great on every other phone than mine, but mine is a Windows Mobile PDA so it makes sense :)

Pics:

My amp should be here tomorrow so my system will be set then! (until I can summon the courage to buy some new speakers for the front, back has some 40 Watt RMS Kenwoods.) Ill take pics of that when it comes. Also of the completely wireless-view that I was able to get by strategically hiding the cables (not hard to do).

The stereo and alpine device is only there for the meantime. I am working on building a CarPC and the touch screen will go where the Stereo is and the Stereo will be dropped down to where the bottom tray (by the shifter) is. This will make the need for the Alpine device completely useless.

Feedback welcomed!

i think you are easily impressed....a few weeks to throw a box between the rear seats???
the deck install is semi justifiable (sorta but not really), but its not like you did this intricate system....afterall its a job your average person with average ability could do in about 3 hours

maybe im just a dick, but im not impressed and i want my click back.

Wow dude, thanks...I did say I did it over time on and off...not straight through. Thanks for the feedback tho...

i guess the reason for my disappointment in the thread was your opening comments...after re-reading what you did im at a total loss on how it took you so long, other than having to modify the install kit, but that takes literally 10 minutes.
everything you did on the install would take about 2 hours tops. you couldnt find 2 hours of your time to do it?....when i read a few weeks i was expecting alot more and ended up with an extremely basic install that a high school kid would do after school just to get some bumps.

sorry for my disappointment, but it was all your doing

Just drop it, dude. I am not at fault for your false hopes. The time that I am able to spend is honestly none of your business. Stop posing times to how long what took me since you have no idea what I had to do unless you where there...So if you don't mind, just move along.
wow grey matter, way to be a dick, the guy put a system together, if you aren't impressed then hit the little x on the tab and close the page. yeah it's not advanced, but a good majority of people can't even install their own stereo. christ, you must be a bitter person.
looks good man, i looking forward to see the finish. Don't worry about what others think. as long as your happy, since you will be the one listening to it...
One person's major undertaking might be another person's simple task.
What one person thinks is good another person might think is bad.
Obviously the OP was pumped about his install and wanted to share with us, which he did, only to have his Cheerios pissed on.

Moral of the story is, opinions are opinions people, we can't all agree about everything now can we?
It's how you voice your opinion (or click out and don't) that can make all the difference.
I think that some of us need a lesson on being a bit more gracious.

OP, good job on the install, you did it with your own two hands and that's satisfaction to the max.
Plus, if anything goes wrong or you decide to go a different rout in the future you know what's there and how it was installed.
Looks good!

Yeah Grey Matter, there was no need to come into his topic and be a douche. IF you weren't interested the close the page. You wasted way more time typing up a reply then closing the page. People have jobs and lives outside of working on their vehicles, sometimes it takes awhile to get things done.
OP - looks good. Any time you build something by hand (like you did with the sub box) it takes a while, especially if you are anal about the fit and finish. Good job.

Grey Matter - you fail at reading comprehension. He stated that he did this off and on ("thus very slowly") over a couple of weeks and that he built the box himself. While it might not be as nice as a professionally built box, it surely is better than what "a high school kid would do after school just to get some bumps". If you cannot be respectful when posting, then don't post. It really is quite simple.

But, hey, you were right about something :thefinger:

maybe im just a dick
Looks nice, but I didn't see any amp installed, you do have one, right?
Good job. I like the box too, finding a way to put a sub back there on our king cabs while still having a place where someone MAY be able to sit is hard. Its hard for me to find anytime to do anything with my truck so I give you mad props! Welcome to the club, 61 post ago.

Dang man chill out!!!

Amen, most people don't even know what a ground wire is and also wonder why the wire colors are not the same from the truck, the adapter, and the stereo and don't know how to just read labels.

Looks nice, but I didn't see any amp installed, you do have one, right?
Said he hasn't put it in yet, he said it was going in tomorrow. This is the part that took me three days of trying to find time to run the power wires and decide where I wanted them. My stereo also wouldn't turn the amp on when I did get everything in place.
looks good man. can't wait to see the finished product with the pc hooked up
Thanks guys! It's all in and sounds awesome even though its only 300 watts rms. I just need to put an on/off switch between the radio and the amp in the remote line. Don't think its wise to always have the sub running if I'm sitting in the truck with the engine off.

CarPC will come soon, I hope. Just need a laptop and a screen so I can start coding the software and editing skins to be made just for our Frontiers!

I'd post pics of the amp, but its just a black box. haha and I have to give people their drugs (I'm a pharmacy tech. not a drug dealer.). haha
Your deck install looks way better than the Alpine I just took out of my truck and a stereo shop put that in. Is there no rear aux connector you can use so you don't have the wire coming out of the front jack? Your sub looks good to me too.
Looks good. I can put on my own lift and do all that stuff but im retarded when it comes to electronics. I couldnt do what you did.
Cokeman-
Actually, funny you mention that AUX because I bought this deck because it was one of the only ones that I could find that has a rear AUX. I just have like this because I need the Kenwood AUX adapter to make the rear one work.

Kamakaze-
That funny! I am in school to be an Engineer with a focus in Electrical systems so I feel so much more at home with wiring and stuff. Yet, as far I go with mechanical stuff is changing my own oil. HAHA
yeah dude your system SUCKS! haha just kidding man it looks good, good work.

we need to send grey matter to sensitivity training...intervention anyone?
OK. That makes sense. The aux on my hu didn't need any add ons but I had to buy a 10 dollar rca to mini cable that runs under the console. I keep my Pioneer XMP3 sat radio in the cup holder when I'm in the truck. Works good.
cd85233, I applaud you for taking your time, AND building a box yourself. I can't imagine what one would look like if I tried doing that.

As far as the dash kit, that is what I started out with, and hated it too. After about 6 months I tore it out, used the metal factory brackets, put the HU up top, and purchased a "single din pocket" that mounted under the HU, on the factory brackets.

I took my sweet *** time doing my system too. No reason to rush when doing a something that's probably a low priority when compared with other things in your life (relationship, job, etc..).
