I prefer not to use "backpressure" but, if you look at how the internals of a flowmaster muffler, it is not a straight path. The gasses kind of fill up areas and then work their way out the next area. Find a picture of the internals of one, print it out and then take a pencil and draw a line the exhaust has to take to exit.

is...is that good? I'd want to see 20+ on the highway. unless you're lifted/bigger tires. I guess you were going fast at 75-90mph. I don't even know how people go that fast in the frontier. Right about 80 is the max speed Im comfortable going in this truck, and not for a sustained amount of time either.

I bet 65-75 you'd see 20+.

I'm guessing you have a V6 and not the I4? I would cry if I returned 17mpg in mine. I regularly cruise 75-80mph on my commute to work (66 mile round trip with a total of 3 miles in the city). I've never gotten a tank less than 22 mpg.

So far best mpg is my trip from sf to Tahoe 17.9 mpg on reg gas. I've tested all the grades of gas and reg so far is the best even though it recommends premium. Truck is not my daily. I'm glad cuz the gas goes down fast! But I love the truck. Truck info stock 07 cc v6 auto, bfg k01,roll x cover.

So, premium fuel was recommended in '07? I 'think' I've come across this before......maybe for Pathfinders? IIRC, compression on VQ40 has not changed, so not sure why Nissan would make this semi-costly recommendation? High(er) octane not needed unless pre-ignition/pinging.

I have a 12 pro4x. I have the old volant cai, ims, jba headers, custom 2.5 inch xpipe to 2 borla bullet mufflers. It's sits on 33" bfg tires and a 6speed. I get 17.9 in town and I travel out of state to see my kids. I do 90 on the turnpike at 2800rpm getting 21.3 mpg according to bullydog.

I have an iDatalink Maestro that (also) taps into the OBD2...so all displayed info (on Kenwood HU touchscreen) is from the truck's ICU. Display tells me my overall MPG is 20.7...and I know from hand calculating that I'm getting more like 16.5-17.5 MPG. So, grab that huge grain of salt until you hand calculate. Only a few here say their displayed MPGs is correct. I know mine isn't.
