At around 1000 miles, I'm going to switch to Mobil 1. The reasons I chose Mobil 1 is because its more available (costco, sam club, wal-mart, kmart, etc.), little less expensive, and a lot of people use it. I've heard good things about royal purple too though...I've heard a lot of people run it for 10000 miles that is with draining it once, changing the filter, and then putting the old oil back...dunno if that's a good thing though...

if you really want the best oil. check out amsoil. they recommend a filter change every six months and oil change every year or 12000 miles. they will also do an oil analysis on your oil to check for contaminants and foreign objects. i don't know their web address but they have a large study on engine oil.

The last car I had was a 2000 Civic. I used Mobil 1 oil in it and it ran like a champ. I got away with changing the oil about every 7500-10000 miles. Honda recommended changing the oil every 7500 miles so I let it slip a few times!!

I also use Mobil 1, mainly because of availability/price. But, I have used other brands when Mobil 1 was not available or on sale, without any adverse effects, but I always use pure synthetic regardless of the brand! I normally change my oil between 3-4K miles as well. I've never trusted any oil to go 10K miles! I guess I'm just od school when it comes to my oil changes!

I'm going to switch to Royal Purple cause I can get it cheaper than Mobil 1. $57 a case. Also a performance shop owner told me his customers have claimed from 1-2 MPG increases. That may not be true but it's worth a try.

StormNISMO that's not a dumb question...cause I asked too.

12 quarts to a case, $4.75 each. I'm sure retail is abit higher, that's a deal from a local speed shop I've done business with. I haven't bought any yet cause not sure which weight would be best 5W30 - 10W30 - 10W40. I going to check with my Nissan guys first.

I've seen the 6 quart cases of Mobil 1 at Costco for about $23-$24. I know that everyone doesn't have a Costco or Sam's in their area but the is the best deal for Mobil 1 that I have seen around here anyway.

Wow, that's not a bad price! FYI, the manual states 5w-30 for cold/warm temps and 10w-30 for warmer weather...

Sounds like a great deal, cheapest I seen Mobil 1 is 33.50 for 6. No Costco here, I'll check it out at Sam's.

According to the manual sounds like 10W30 would be best.

Thanks for the info.

I use 5W30 no matter what. And I've been using Royal Purple for my Hardbody since I got it. Awesome oil!! I'm old school too, so I still change every 3K or so even though I can go on for a while on Royal Purple. I'm switching to RP as soon as the first oil change comes up!

I'm looking out to switch to Synthetic too, probably the next oil change.
I heard that when going from Dino Oil to full Synthetic, some people recommend a full oil flush before doing so (concerned with leaks, etc.).
Anyone actually do this, and is it neccessary??

I've never done it...I just switched my frontier to mobil 1 (5w-30) @ 1100 miles...My last car was switched from dino -> mobil 1 (from 3k to 25k miles) and then back to dino accidentally without any problems. The dealership did a warranty fix and changed the oil without letting me know. :? So I don't think it's necessary...

I have used Royal Purple on my car and motorcycle. Liked it.
but now I have tried Motul and Silkolene (Fuchs) for my motorcycle and loved how it made the shifting alot smoother.
I am curious if they are applicable for vehicles, mainly the Silkolene (Fuchs) one
