Apologies if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if the lower wishbone ball joint can be replaced on its own on a D40 or is it a new wishbone job?Thanks.

Carquest lists the lower ball joint as a Moog K80647. It costs about half of the control arm with ball joint included.

The service manual states that the ball joint is not a separate part of the link. "If the ball joint is defective, replace the link."

Sorry to pull this back up but it is safe to just replace the ball joint by it's self? Leo did you do this successfully? Some auto parts stores list the lower separate and some do not so its making me wonder if there is something I should know even though I don't see anything special about it.
I have had these break going down the highway and it's not fun. Now my truck feels like it's about to tell me whats up so I am replacing everything before its too late.

As long as it fits tightly (press fit) into the control arm, it should not be a problem.
