Ok, my 1 year old lost my keys. And I know I'll find 'em after I get a new set but I have to ask the question anyway.

I called the dealer and I have to:

1) Tow the truck to the dealer
2) $79 for the key
3) $109 to program it

Question: Is this my only option?

First, the key is chipped for the anti-theft system, and they are expensive.
You can't just have a regular old key made at Wally World, it won't work in the ignition.

Second, from what I know only the dealer can program the key to the truck.
Maybe somebody knows something different then I do.

That really sucks dude.
I know you've probably already searched for hours, but I'd look some more.

You only had one set to begin with I take it?

What ToddG said is true. I feel you man. Its also going to be hard to open your glovebox as well. I found out first hand. You should have a second set though the dealer gave you just in case. Atleast mine did.

I did, I bought it used and it only had 1 key.

I will be pissed if I tow the truck up there and the guy walks out with a hand-held device to match the key to the truck.

call a good lock smith. he can actually make a copy of the tumblers and then just take that to the dealer then you will still be able to use your glove box and tailgate lock. im not sure if nissan does it but GM used to actually have a key code reg's to the vin so if you lost your key you could get a copy made and still fit everything. not sure if it was jut dealers that could do that or any licensed lock smith. its worth a call to your dealer to ask.

call around to some locksmiths. They have the programmer needed and can come out to you. Should be cheaper than the dealer.

or what he said ^^

It doesn't sound like I'm getting a new key-pattern, just a new key that will be coded to my truck. I would think it'd be a lot more than $79 for a key and the ignition tumblers.

I'm pretty sure $79 is just for the key (cut and matched to your truck).
What about your key fob, do you have keyless entry, you'll probably want to replace that to?

It sucks but that's technology for you.
