The gf and I took a short trip down Hwy 1 to big Sir for a camping trip. It was her first camping trip, so I made it pretty short because I want to eventually start going a few times a year so had to break her in.

It was also my first time using the truck bed tent. It is definitely convenient, but the ventilation is poor, so there was a lot of condensation in the morning. Luckily, I bought it used for a cheap price and it also came with a air mattress for the back. I think I will save up for something nicer, the foldout style possibly.

Anyways, so the plan was to leave really early, enjoy the drive down 1 set up early and do some hiking. What actually happened was we go bad directions from my wonderful Garmin, so we spent a hour or so looking for a decent camping spot. I didn't mind, cuz there are some really great EASY trails off Los Burros road right off 1 so I had fun.

After we unloaded and set up, the gf was more interested in cooking and just hanging out. We played some scrabble, cards enjoyed the view before the fog rolled in. By that time it was cold enough to start a fire, and start to prepare an early dinner.

Birds eye view of camp before fog came in

Small portion of the trail to the camp site. The road is quite long, there is also private party scattered through out.. so you just have to look for the signs. Some great easy driving in here.

Decent shot of the other gf

So the best way to learn who makes the best gear, is to try stuff out..

Here is some of the basic stuff I have, some great some not so great.

The burner I thought was one of those "there all the same" deals and bought what was on sale. WRONG. Coleman is so worth 50-60 bux when this 30 one had a faulty igniter after its 2nd use. The drip coffee make is awesome, pre-ground my coffee before we left and some #2 filters, very portable. The water container is great too. You cant see the coleman cooler, but its awesome. I thought it was a bit crazy to say it keeps ice frozen for up to 5 days, but there not lying. They are dope!

Some more shots of the view

So as trendy as it is to "be green" now a days, I try to be as clean as possible, leave as little trace behind as we can. So we had this method of washing our hands, and dishes in the bucket, then pouring the waste water in gallon containers. 2 days of washing I brought home 3 gallons. Poured it down the sink vs directly on to the ground, figure it going to the water treatment plant vs directly into the soil would be better.

Up bright n early... You cant even tell how high up we are haha.

cool pics.

i don't know if you have an REI near you, but check them out for natural biodegradable camping soap. it works really well and you don't have to worry about unnatural substances getting into the ground.

yea I have some actually, but it was also the cooking grease, bits of food, etc.. And i can agree on the REI thing, they have a ton of cool stuff. Wasn't there a thread on here or something about how they are supporting closing some off road park or something? That's why i crossed them off my list of stores to shop in haha.

That tent looks cool.

I'm leaving for those mountains right now....so much for getting on the road at 5 am like I had planned.

Thank you for the picture of that sign! I saw that same sign years ago while camping up there. Too funny!

^----Money shot right there.
Looks like a great time and thanks for being conscious about the environment, seriously.
Sorry missed this comment, thank you. I was sad how dirty the place was when we got there. We filled up a 1/4 bag of trash that wasnt even ours
