Went on vacation for 9 days. About a week before we left the SES light came on and I thought "great, here we go a week before vacation." The fix took all of 15 minutes. The dealer hooked up a computer and "flashed" something in the software (I can't find my work order). Anyway the trip was 1533.5 miles and I used 74.611 gallons of mostly 87 octane, no ethanol gas. Never ran premium, and 10% ethanol only when I had no choice. Driving ranged from 75mph Interstate to 50mph county roads. The majority of the trip was 55 zones. Truck always had 5 people in it, and for the lions share of the trip had a weeks worth of gear and 5 bikes attached.
The slower driving, non-winter blend gas, and whatever they did with my computer have resulted in the best mileage yet. I had NEVER broke 20 mpg and the truck now has 19,500 miles on it. I averaged 20.55 mpg.

Agreed. Back when I was stock I was always 20+. I didn't dip below that until I started going bigger on the tires, and even then the drop was only 1 - 1.5 mpg. For as much highway driving as that trip was, even with the added weight of the cargo and passengers + it being a long bed, I would have expected better. Maybe you guys had a lot of stops or stop-and-go trips between the longer highway trips?

You guys both have 6 speeds, that definitely helps. My auto usually only gets 19.5-20 on the highway and would be happy with 20.55. Then again, on the couple road trips I've taken, since I usually drive at night with few other cars around, I'm typically driving faster than he was. Before someone rips me for that comment, I do NOT drive my truck like its a sports car.

We had almost no stop and go driving except when passing through towns along the highways. We also ran the AC a bunch because it was humid. You both have 6 spds, and I'm an auto w/ a CC, Long Bed, and 4 wheel drive. Just curious but are both of you 4x2 or 4x4?

I think I got a guzzler then.....the best I've ever gotten was around 19 to 20 with 2 people in the truck and nothing else. It was bone stock then. Now that I have bigger tires I average anywhere from 15 to 17 in the city...get close to 18 on the highway. However, I just got my superchips flashpaq in recently and haven't had to fill up since I flashed the ECU...hopefully mine gets better! I have a 6spd CC with the long bed. I think you got some good mileage Haulin!

Oh it is definitely the best I have ever gotten. I have kicked myself for not buying a Titan up til now because of the crappy mileage the Frontier was getting. Before I was lucky to get 18 hwy with just me in the truck. I really think whatever they re-programmed had an impact. That and no more winter blend gasoline!

^^Im willing to bet they didn't do anything but reset the ECU. Maybe even just reset the learned fuel adjustments, and cleared the codes.

Well figure your 6 spd is worth 1-2 mpg more, and 4x2 is worth 1-2 mpg more. That explains some of it...but not all.
i know a lot of people claim ridiculous things about performance mods and most of them are false, but i swear (hand on bible) i saw 1mpg+ gain out of my exhaust. that helps

And since that is on my "to do" list it just moved up a spot. Will help convince the wife I should do it too.

Had to get my rear right seal fixed on my truck a few weeks ago. I'm in Franklin NC and my dealer is in Alco TN. (125 miles) No A/C needed that day and I have 2X4 CC Nismo 05. Average speed would work out to be about 65mph. When I pulled up to the service door my mpg said 24.6. Rather surprised. Best I ever done on the same trip was 22.5. Only preformance mods are Gibson Cat system,AFE drop in dry filter, 2 degree advance. I run Cooper 265/75/16 ATR with nitrogen fill. When I got back home it had went down to 23.3. I'm playing music on the weekends again and driving 140 a night round trip and average 22.0 with a slower average speed and one mountain at 4047 ft to climb. So all in all I'm happy with my MPG.

That's not bad for the size of your truck and the payload you were hauling.

From the Nissan website, the SE 4x4 6spd is estimated at 15/19 MPG and the LE Auto 4x2 is estimated at 15/20. Your long bed weighs 4,429 while my short bed weighs 4,464. Interesting! I thought your truck would be heavier but I guess my front differential, transfer case, etc weigh more than your extra bed length. I know the long bed must change the aerodynamics of the vehicle though, and the bikes definitely created drag.

I drove from Tucson to Flagstaff two weekends ago. Went from roughly 2100 elevation to about 7,000 elevation. on the way there i used an entire tank on 87 (271 miles) doing speed limit the whole way (65-75). averaged about 14 miles per gallon. obviously the mountains killed my MPG's but on the way back i averaged about 16 MPG's doing speed limit as well. This past weekend i drove doing speed limit (75) to phoenix which is at about 1200 ft. and averaged about 16 there and back. in Tucson i have been getting about 13 in town, so for those of you who are 4x4 getting 20+... im jealous.
