ok, so right now I'm running Interco Trxus, 285/75/16, load range 'E'

I was looking at Firestone Destination AT in the 265/75/16 size but they are only available in load range 'C' and 'SL' (standard load). The 'C' rating is 2480lb at 50psi (112/109R), the 'SL' rating is 2604 lb (114S) with a max pressure of 44psi.

not planning on wheeling too much but I have been known to throw a little weigh in the bed and will be towing a lot more often.

I'm just not sure which version of this tire is actually better...and I'm thinking I may want to go a different route and get at least a 'D' range tire (of course, that puts me back at square one, looking at everything except BFG AT's). trying to keep it below a grand for five, mounted and balanced...

any suggestions?

i've heard nothing but good about the General HT tires. my 2500HD chevy went from 265/75/16 BFG AT load D to the General HT 265/75/16 Load E. Generals ride and feel overall much better, but of course comparing apples to oranges isn't fair. Currently on my frontier i have 265/70/17 nitto terra grapplers with a "P" rating. I will be switching to a P265/70/17 General HT. I have a 4x4 also, but don't plan to wheel much. I do plan on towing a travel trailer that weighs <3500 lbs.

Subscribed, since I too am interested in the Destination A/T's.
There's enough people here running them. I was browsing last night and saw the two different versions of the A/T. One is cheaper, and lighter, than the other. Which of the two are people running?

You'll regret the E's I think. They are unecessary for the load, flex poorly offroad, ride rough, and are heavy, which of course affects fuel economy, acceleration, braking, and ride.

p285/70/17 Destination AT. I drive alot and usually carry a pretty decent load, I am happy with how the tires perform, ride, and welcome the fuel economy. I had 295/70/17 Terra Grapplers (load range D) on there and at first it didn't bother me but it rode like a tank and my economy went down the tubes, balancing was a biotch as well. So far the Destinations have made me happy.

I've got E's right now. Got them only because I got a really good deal on them...They are overkill; D's would have been better.

They actually don't do too badly on the road but I keep the tire pressure much much lower than max. Off road, they are very rough if I don't air down. I lost about 1-1.5 mpg, and it is a bigger tire than the stockers.

I got these tires at Discount Tire not too long ago for under $700 M&B...which won't help the OP out any since it doesn't look like there are any Discount Tire stores in Maine.

just curious what load range your tires are. I know they come in D or E in some sizes, just not 265/75/16's.

FWIW, I ended up going with Yokohama Geolandar AT-S in load range D, I know they're less aggressive but I'm getting a decent deal on them and hopefully they will last me a while...

They are the P metric, so no load rating, in the size I have I know there is a P-metric and a load range E. Here is a size and rating chart.

that means they're 'SL' or standard load, tire rack shows them at 2833lb at 35 psi, the 'E' version is 3195lb at 80psi.
