The lower hoop version in the first pic does absolutely nothing except rob approach angle. The full grill version adds a small amount of protection but since they only attach at the bottom they are still weak. Bull bars are for looks only and most people consider them as damage multipliers. Hitting something when you have a bull bar just multiplies the damage to your front end without adding much protection.

You won't notice any appreaciable collision protection until you upgrade to a real aftermarket bumper. I live in wildlife central so this is an educated opinion. Your cash is better spent on quality lighting to avoid collisions rather than mediocre protection.
