I have been searching and Im not able to find the information I am looking for...

I have a 2000 frontier XE 2.4cyl 5speed VIN 1NDD21S9YC372462
I have 147,000 miles on it AND I HAVE NEVER CHANGED THE TIMING BELT!!!!! gasp!!!!

Im getting ready to make a 1600mile trip and think it might be a good idea to change the timing belt and the water pump. It there a guide or a writeup that someone has done to help me along with this?

I saw that the 3.3 has a belt that needs to be changed at 100k but it seems like I read somewhere that the 2.4 has a stainless steel timing chain that would last the life of the engine, is this true?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

ka's dont have a belt! they use a chain.

no, unless it starts rattling or breaks.. should last the life of the engine..

might not be a bad idea to replace the water pump if it hasn't been already. but i echo the sentiment on the chain, it'll last the lifetime of the engine.

Water pump is pretty easy to change since it is on the outside of the timing chain cover. Just a couple of hand tools and some RTV sealant.
