Assuming the vehicle failed state inspection because of a CEL that's caused by a faulty knock sensor, it should. Will relocating the Knock Sensor work to pass this issue for a state inspection ?
The reason for relocation is ease of replacement in the future. These will fail eventually and its about $400-$700 in labor to get it replaced, as the upper and lower intake manifolds have to be removed to get to the sensor. Mounting it on top makes it a 5min job to replace.I am a first time Nissan owner and just came across this thread . So that I do not have to read between the lines for hundreds of postings can someone please tell me what the issue is with the knocks sensor ?
Off brand sensors are cheap. What brand is it you are looking at on ebay?Getting ready to buy a new knock sensor and relocate to the intake manifold. Question I have is looking on ebay now I can buy a maxima knock sensor and harness in Nissan OEM packaging for less than $25. Have these things come down in price. I guess if the knock sensor fails it would be easy enough to replace with another one. Am I missing something?
Thank you for any replies.
Nissan does not make the parts, another manufacturer does. Hitachi is OEM for most Nissan knock sensors. If that's a Hitachi its a great deal. If not, its still a good deal.
Note, that you can buy those same parts from Walmart for 16$
I strongly recommend reading the sticky on this, in it's entirety. That way you get the benefits of everyone who has gone before you on this (I'm one of 'em).can you get some better pics of where you put it?
and also too, did you have to buy a new knock sensor?
last thing... how did you pay 69 for that harness? i got mine for 25 locally from my dealer
i think you got the wrong harness, heres the one i got and all the guys on nexterra run this harness... its only 17 dollars

As I remember it is wired into harness. It has a plug on the sensor. It’s under intake. Comes in from the back. Passenger side off main harness. Not surpringly most pics in the thread have long since stopped hosting.
I understand the need for the harness and the KS to make this happen.
What plug am I taking is from under the hood? I need a photo of the location and if you have a photo of what wires you used that would be great.
I managed to score a 2002 with 230,000miles and 0 rust on it in Canada so I plan to drive this thing for a while.

its a single looking wire in a loom. When cut it really is more like coax. Shielded. Your dealing with a tiny tiny signal voltage, plug wires and alternator create a field. This could induce voltage into the lead, so it protected with a shield Around main conductor.
the sensor is grounded by mount bolt to engine block under intake manifold. This is its ground. When it hears the ping, it sends tiny voltage to the CPU.It cuts timing back and opens East gate on a supercharger. Tried timing first I think. Then more ping, it wastes supercharger pressure to intake.
you must find the loom off passenger side valve cover area, follow the correct loom with sensor wire.
I cut my at back of manifold, I had some tiny coax, solder a length on shield to shield core wire to core wire. I covered with shrink tubing. Mounted with a longer bolt to the automatic tranny dip stick mount on back of head. Holds dip stick and sensor. I used a piece of copper tubing to sensor to give it the ground and a ridged mount to engine.
This is explained in the threads. Pics are still there.
maybe page 3-5??? 2009?
saw them recently. 3 pics I think.
good luck, Eric.
Mine never set a code. Knock sensor does NOT turn on CEL. I would pull over, turn off truck, restart, drove great again. Till a severe ping. No power.Thank you for the info.
Mine does not have the SC but i am finding it is really sluggish and seems to be really high RPM with horrible fuel milage.
I have the code and figured doing this would help with the above.

Ok, with a supercharger I could pull over, lift the hood a see the waste gate linkage being held to full waste. Turn it off, restart, waste gate back to normal. The code is not triggering the CEL. I only know it dropping a code because I had another code that trigger the CEL.
I did an oil change last night and found it to be super low on oil from the previous owner. Before the Oil change it sounded like I was driving a Cummins down the road not it is dead quiet. I will see if the code drops in a few days.
