Check engine light came on in my 2002 V6 2WD with 82K. Dealer said knock sensor was bad and replaced it. Light remains on so they change both O2 sensors. Light is still on and now they say the wiring harness is bad to the O2 sensors with intermittent readings.

Sounds like a bunch of BS and they want $2400 for a harness replacement after the cost of the other repairs. This is what a home mechanic would do by reading codes and swapping parts until it is fixed.

Anyone have this experience?

Reading older posts, it sounds like maybe the Cats are bad and they have no clue. Dealer even claimed they have never seen a harness go bad like this before.

Appreciate any advice.

I will bet KS was bad. All KS die and will not trip the CEL. As for the 02 harness I´m not sure why it would cost 2400. The harness connections are on the left side top of the oil cover. The wires are big red and blue and all 02 sensors go there. Maybe they are replacing all fours 02 sensors and wires?

I think that they are guessing!

Im in the same boat, but I didnt take it anywhere. Rather do it myself. Im willing to bet my cats are bad. I have a buddy that just replaced his cats on his chevy. He said it was due to Corn gas. It burns hotter than good ol gas. So with the hotter burn he said it will mess the cats up.

I really haven´t heard of too many bad cats on the frontier. If you have over 100,000 miles on your truck you should replace the 02 sensors. There are four 02s and four cats. Your second cats are not needed but if may effect you getting certified in your state. However, you want to keep all four O2 sensors.

Also, some code readers will read real-time values off the 02s and you see the running values change to determine if it is an 02 or possibly a cat. I will bet it´s a 02 as these go bad more often.

My opionion - your buddy drives a chevy and in my humble opionion they are prone to failure. I can only bet he has already replaced his alternator, ball joints, bearings, had 4x4 issues, has rust under the doors or at the rocker pannels, water pump replacement, etc.

I wish I worked in a business where I could continuously charge my customers large sums of money for me being wrong.

I would definitely take it somewhere else, that's a ridiculous sum of money, even if you don't take into consideration the money you've already spent.

You can check your o2 sensors w/an elcheapo multimeter: Disconnect the sensor, start the vehicle. Meter should read about 1/2 vdc or so. Run the engine up to 2600 rpm. Meter should fluctuate between 1/2 vdc and 1 vdc, or so. This is a good sensor. No fluctuation or no reading = bad sensor.

I just replaced the throttle position sensor myself, then went to dealership to get the code removed. Left the dealership, and the check engine came on again. Took it right back and it has another code P1148. I bought the O2 sensor, bank 1. Had it replaced today, and code removed, etc. I drive to the next stop light. Engine light comes on again.... take it back to the shop, now a code for knock sensor.... and they tell me I should have a combustion test run to see if my engine is even "sound" enough to spend the $$ to replace the knock sensor.

I need help guys. Can anyone give advise? (other than to drive her into the Susquhanna River). I need this truck. I used to be able to work on the 64 chevy I had (even rebuilt the carburator...ok I still had a spring left over when I was done)...... but Nissan's... well, I don't know. Can anyone help?
