All depends on if you have the alarm. It's in there, but it may or may not be activated. Bring it to a hardware store and they can tell you. Do not ask Nissan. They tell everyone that every key needs to be programmed
if you have the security package (red light blinks on the dash right at the bottom of the windshield) then you have a transponder key, if not, you don't have a transponder key
There was a bunch of trucks that were supposed to have the system but it wasn't installed when built, those owners had to have the dealer put in the necessary parts.
If I recall correctly if you try a standard cut key more than a couple of times and it won't start the truck will think it's being tampered with or stolen and go into a fail safe mode and has to be towed to a dealer to reset it.
