When I back up with a trailer my 25 Frontier it automatically applies the brakes and won't let me backup any further. I apply and let off the brakes and it lets me go a foot or more and then the brakes are applied automatically again.
I turned off all driving aid features(blind spot, lane, forward) in menus and the VDC on the dash. Still does the same thing.
I did a forum search but don't see anything that addresses this specifically.
Any ideas on what may be causing it??

Every time you shift into reverse you have to hit the park sense button below your screen or your truck will freak out and stop rather suddenly. My Titan was the same way. I haven’t gone into the main menu on the speedo screen-maybe you can permanently disable it there.

 

Yep, you don't have to do anything with the menu or other "features" just the button with the "P".

You can go into the menu and turn off the emergency rear braking. This works until the vehicle is turned off and re-started. I used to push the button, but you have to do that every time you shift in and out of reverse. For me, it's more convenient to turn it off in the menu so it stays off as long as the truck is running. It doesn't take long to turn it off in the menu once you figure out which menu it is.

Same button will stop the beeping when you back up with the tailgate down.

 

I need to go into the menu and turn of the rear emergency braking when I'm backing up my boat. The sonar button only shuts off the beep but the brakes will still engage.

 

Something is wrong if your truck actually operates this way. Warranty?

It's 178 of 567 in my download, section 2-51. That's for a 2022, maybe it's changed? When I back my trailer all I have to do is push the P button each time I select reverse.

 

Mine is a 2025 pro4x. Pg 178 in my manual.

 

I'd suggest you try the button, see what happens. Kudos if you've been able to back your trailer with the RAB engaged, I wouldn't have patience. Edit- surge brakes on the trailer would be another potential issue.

 

Haven't tested, but suspect button sets temporary "normal". If no new objects, yer good. That's my thinking anyway.

In any case button was enough for me with tailgate down or reversing car trailer

switch on dash turn it off until you crank truck up again

 

is it truck breaks or trailer break is trailer break locking you down when in reverse mine was wired wrong locking down trailer in reverse

 

You can also push the left steering wheel button that says enter when you shift in reverse. Itwill need to be reset like the p button though.

 

I wish the breaking would automatically disable when the truck is placed in Tow mode...

There is a safety feature designed to prevent drivers from inadvertently backing into an object. There is an on/off button on the center console, under the radio. Turn it off to back when connected w. a trailer or when backing with tailgate down.

Go into the driver assist scroll down to rear brake and cut it off. Ever time you start the car you will have to go back and do it again

 

Seems there are folks who like to drive in Tow Mode w/o a trailer. Maybe Nissan was trying to accommodate them.

 

Yep, I found that the hard way! Same with turning off the “auto engine off” at stop lights!
