In my 10 years of my 2000 Frontier SE CC, I have only removed the spare tire for practice once and that was in early afternoon with very bright light and even then it was PITA....... how much more if I have to remove it at night time just in case?? It's location and the tool to remove it seems like it is a poor design or poorly thought of when it was planned....any ideas??:crikey:

I have pulled mine off twice. Once two months after I got the truck and found out that you dont get road hazard warranty when you buy a vehicle.
The second time was to flip the tire over so the valve stem was down and I could easily check the pressure in my spare tire.
good luck.

Thanks, I was able to get it out today in the strong sunlight by getting under the truck and guide the the long rod remover to latch unto that small slot to crank down the tire. I was able to check the tire pressure and pump air. At night time when everything is dark that tire will be dificult to remove. I always carry 3 flashlights, one which shakeable to provide the energy, a small one with 3AAA batteries and another which you crank the dynamo to provide the energy.....
It's a good drill to know and be able to remove it in case you need the spare time when you happen to get a flat tire...anywhere.. in the middle of the night or during daytime...:goodjob:
