My 05 nismo frontier's engine suffered due to a lack of oil. Oil pressure now isn't as high as it should be at idle. My plan is to keep driving it while saving $ for a good down payment but I am still shopping around in case I find a really good deal.

So far, any lower miles, recent year truck that has a price I like is a 4cyl...coming it a good $3k below a similar v6.

I have a lawn care business. I only put 7-8k miles per year, my customers are close to home, so most of the driving is short trips towing a standard 8x5 utility trailer with a 800 pounds of equipment on it.

Can the 2.5 handle that, without it being deadly slow or without hurting the engine/transmission? Most of the ones I have found are also automatic equipped...though if I had to have a 4 banger, I think I'd rather have the manual trans.

@easygreen...Not sure if you've seen these weblink regarding the QR25DE engine

While no engine is perfect, I'm pretty sure timing chain stretch is NOT good!!... Something to consider.

If by short trips you mean less than 2-3 miles, that's not good on ANY engine. Helps if you can get in 15-20 miles a trip as it allows the engine to warm up properly & get all the systems, (intake / exhaust / catalysts / cooling, / etc), working efficiently. Short trips will kill any motor with time...fluids break down, carbon buildup on the intake / exhaust valves, etc.** see links below**

As far as the 800 lbs of equipment, the QR25DE motor should be able to handle it, (are you mostly towing on flat or hilly terrain??). You might have to service the transmission & differential ever 20K miles though if you're doing a lot of "short" driving....

** Short Trip Links**

I would be patient and hold out for a 4.0. From your other thread, I believe your current truck is still running, press pause. The only people who win when we are in a hurry is the person selling. I think you would be disappointed with a 4 banger after having a 6.
