I've noticed a somewhat disconcerting "kick" in my 09 SE 4X4. I'll be driving normally in 2WD at like 60kmph and out of nowhere the truck will kick or buck forward. It almost feels like when you have wheelspin and then it suddenly grabs traction. Except there isn't any wheelspin and I'm not on what I'd consider a low traction environment. Its happened a few times, on a wet road but I can't replicate the feeling. It's completely random. AFAIK my truck doesn't have VDC or any type of traction control beyond the factory LSD. Is this something possibly failing in the driveline, or something else entirely?

I have a six speed. I was under the impression the manual doesn't have the same issue or am I mistaken?

There's 180km on the truck. The clutch is probably still factory, but other than cooked fluid which I swapped out I haven't had any issues with it slipping. The kick isn't when I'm shifting either, it was just driving along in 3rd or 4th. No heavy acceleration, minimal throttle input, 2500 ish rpms.

Update: I've noticed a tiny bit of slip at the very top of the clutch pedal. Is a sticky clutch a thing? Like it's not disenaging fully after a shift then after a few rotations completely releasing. It would probably explain the sensation. Or am I barking up the wrong tree and chasing two separate problems here?

Update 2.0: Still getting the wheel spin sensation on wet pavement. But I've been driving long enough to know what wheel spin feels like and this isn't it. The truck doesn't seem to think so either, as I'm not getting the SLIP light when it happens. I don't even know if "kick" is the right word to describe it? It feels like a yank or a tug from the rear axle. I'm at a total loss here. I wanna make sure this isn't a symptom of something larger, cuz camping season is approaching and I do not want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a pissed off girlfriend. At the same time I don't wanna just throw money at this thing and hope something sticks. I can't take it to a shop to diagnose cuz its so intermittent, so until I have at least a starting point I'm basically spinning my tires.... Pun intended :comphead:

For those of you just tuning in symptoms are: kicking, bucking, or yanking (like when you grab traction after spinning the tires) sensation on wet pavement. I'm not bagging on it, or trying to get it break loose. It happens with little to no throttle input; at ~2000rpm and the "kicks" dont spike or dip rpm at all, in 2WD, happens intermittently only on wet pavement but once its kicked once it seems more frequent until I return to a "high traction" surface. It's not throwing codes, so I'm not thinking its an ABS sensor or something similar.

Have you checked for leaky rear axle seals? Gear lube on the brake pads or e brake shoes can cause them to get grabby though normally in reverse only.
This is now on my immediate to do list. I feel like this is one of those times that Occam's Razor gets beat by Murphy's Law but maybe I'll get lucky.

When my axle seals were seeping gear oil there was dampness on the edge of the rotors. Run your finger on the edge through the rear wheels and also take a good look. One more thing is the parking brake didn't hold the weight of the truck.

Rotors are dry and I parked on a hill in neutral and the e-brake held. I've been wrestling with it, and I think I'm just gonna replace the clutch and flywheel and see if that helps. It was on my to-do list when I bought the truck, I'd just hoped I could postpone it. Like I mentioned in an earlier post I am noticing a little slip, and I'd rather get it done now than have it fail on me in the middle of nowhere. And I can get parts way cheaper through Rock Auto than what I'd get dinged for "emergency" repairs locally.
