wtf is a speed sensing wire. your installing a deck? that doesnt even sound like it goes to the deck.

The D1 is a combination GPS/Navigation/DVD Player/CD MP3 player/CD Changer HU. It uses the VSS vehicle speed sensor wire to tell when the vehicle is moving. It then doesn't let you watch DVD's or type on the screen to set destinations, thinking that it may distract the driver.

Jasonet,

Let me know how you like the installation. Can you post pictures? How is the angle of the screen in the dash and usability in daylight?

Thanks

well, i installed it last night. It wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. I still havent found the reverse wire or the speed signal wire, but the nav is working fine. I have to pull it apart one more time to connect the rear camera. I will post some pics when i get a chance.

Has anyone been able to locate to speed sensing wire in our trucks?[06 CC] Any help would be great. Thanks
This may have been covered on this board before but, there is no VSS on the Frontier. No vehicle speed sensor exists. The ABS control unit gets wheel speed from the 4 wheel speed sensors and passes that to the instrument cluster which converts the raw data into vehicle speed using a formula that is pre-programmed into it and then your speedo gauge moves. There is no speed sensor and therefore no sensor wire to tap into. You may want to contact Pioneer to see what else you can do as far as installation.

I don't recall where it was, but recently in the process of searching for some other Frontier related information (don't remember what was either...getting old) I stumbled upon a thread that discussed wiring a dvd into the sensor for the parking brake such that the dvd would not function unless the parking brake was set. I got the impression that this was a statute requirement for wherever it was that they lived.

I have a wire label chart for our truck and it says there is a speed signal wire. It says light blue. Well i have had the dash totally apart and yes there about 20 light blue wires. It has been a couple of days and the nav is workin perfect so im not going to worry about it for now. I still have to locate the reverse wire so i can install the rear view camera. Any one looking at replacing thier stock unit i def recommend the avic, its nice. The only thing i dont like is the ipod interface, but i hear there is a new one comin out this year.

OK, how about some pictures?

Jasonet,

How about some pictues. I'd like to see the angle of the screen and how that looks. If you could also show some driver and passenger eye views of what the screen looks like during the day and night, that'd be GREAT!

Also, did you get a deal on it?

And the 2v pre-outs. I looked at this UNIT really hard, before settling on my Kenwood and the final straw for me to NOT get it was the 2v pre-outs. Now, if you care very little about music quality, then not a deal-killer for you (obviously, since you bought it :D ) but the only DVD/Nav Unit I could find that met all my requirements was the Eclipse and at $1699 on EBAY (like $2500 retail) I couldn't justify it.

I am VERY happy with the Sirius and IPOD hookup off my Kenwood Excelon though. Sounds phenomenal.

BTW, I have been looking for a mount for my IPOD for the glove box and have ordered the one from proclipusa.com with the cable hookup... I will pot pics this weekend when I get it all finished.

I will post some pics , probably on friday when i get everything finished up. It looks great, like it came from the factory. I am very happy with the sound although now i want an amp and sub. I also looked at the eclispe and kenwood. I would have loved to have dvd but i can always hook up a dvd player and put in in the glove box. I have the sirius and ipod[i pod in the top glove box]. I got a great deal on everything from ebay and with doin the install myself it really didnt cost that much. I Will get some pics up soon.

Jasonet23,

So, out of those 20 wires, which one was the VSS wire & where was it? I am trying to install my unit, and I cannot find the VSS wire!!!
I apriciate if you could post a diagram or pics of the wire location.

You can take the reverse signal from the tail light, can't you?

Thanks!

Hey open, The chart i have says the vss wire is a light blue wire in the gauge cluster[ive had it apart and there were a few diffrent light blue wires] I never hooked up the vss wire and the nav is working fine. I think the only thing that doesnt work is the display that shows the speedo and clock and i think rpms. On the reverse wire , yes it would be very easy to hook up to the reverse lights. The problem is the reverse wire comes off the deck not the camera so finding the reverse wire in the dash would be easier.

watch while rollin

The Alpine I installed had the same type feaure. I bypassed it by making my own circuit. It uses a 12v hot on one switch and a to ground/ground lift on another. Yours may have something similar with the VSS...I don't really know. The VSS probably sends the unit voltage, disabling your screen. Try grounding the wire on a switch. For a reverse light, hook 12v to a fused switch running to the reverse wire on the deck. You can trick it by flipping the switch. You may have to lift the ground on the other when in reverse. Like I said, I don't really know your deck. I always stay off the harness in aftermarket installs. Mine works without the key in the ignition.

ok here goes

Here's what the word on the street is...on the connector, attatch a wire to the open spot, and ground that wire. If unused, use the automatic antannae wire if you want. Just pull it out and plug in in that open hole. Then, ground the parking brake wire. This is supposed to do it...Like I say, I don't really know for sure, but sure would like to know.
