As the title says.... Was rear ended, by an 98 PURPLE neon, at about 30 mph. I had my hitch and reciver on, which took most of the hit, but he hit me so hard, it knocked my foot off the brake padel and I hit the guy in front of me. And believe it or not... not a scratch on me.... my head hit the head rest so hard.... it made a funny noise, that my be broke now too.... but all in all everyone was ok. I called the police anyway. I wanted it to be documented.

At first it looked like I would need a new hitch, rear bumper, and a front bumper.....

But after looking real close..... MY FRAME IS BENT!!!!

Here is some pics of the after math.

His car....

My truck... here is what I saw at first bumper bent a little and hitch is bent down....

The front is kinda the same. It has a flat spot on the front, which bent the driver side out, away from the truck.

THEN AFTER LOOKING AT IT IN THE LIGHT..........................

Its like this on both sides!

And my tail gate lines are off too.

Let me know what you guys think.
Totaled?
Will it leave a bad mark on car facts? Make my value go down?
Say eff it, and drive it as is?

let me know "IMO"

Thanks

the purple car insurance should fix EVERYTHING. they end of the frame where it mounted may be a tad tweaked but your frame itself is fine.

nothing really eff it about it. it should all get fixed by the guy that rear ended you.

sucks that it happened, glad your ok. but it should all get fixed.

Yeah, that was my thought too. I know his insurance will cover it all, but the bent frame thing... Not sure how that would pan out. Or how much that would cost to fix.

Also, I wonder if and how much my value went down due to this being on a car faxs report? I mean, I dont think I would would wanna buy a used truck that had "frame repair" on the report.... whould you?

Man, I feel your pain. Just went through the same crap with some toad that rear ended me and didnt have insurance. Luckily my frame was not bent, but lookin at yours, its not really that bad - but im no professional. How does the box line up to the back of your cab?
Anyhoo .. thats what insurance is for, fix it back to 100%.
If i could make one suggestion, perhaps you should remove the hitch reciever. I remove mine all the time, and im thinking thats what saved my frame.

PUT A 10 FOOT HITCH IN THE RECIEVER AND BEND IT BACK UP :) tHATS NOT BAD, BUT HAVE YOUR HEADREST CHECKED BECAUSE MOST HEADREST TODAY HAVE A WHIPLASH PROTECTION DEVICE THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED AS ITS A 1 USE ONLY. oN JAGUARS ITS THE HEADREST AND SEAT BACK FRAME THAT DISTORTS AND GOES DOWN(BENDS) TO ABSORB THE IMPACT FROM YOUR HEAD AND BODY IN REAREND COLLISIONS

Anytime you need to go in for repairs, your are losing value. If you were looking at buying 2 identical trucks at the same price, but one had been repaired and one had never been in an accident - which one would you buy?

depending on the other persons insurance it may not get reported to car scam, i mean car fax. car scam is NOT 100% reliable. of course if you go to trade it in or sell it and they ask you if its ever been in an accident, thats another story.

So how did it all work out? Did he pay you? I believe the bed still lines up.... but I didnt look for that.

I agree the reciever may have put it all on the frame, but with out it it would have wasted the bed, tailgate and rear bumper..... would rather have that then a bent frame!

Same exact kind of damage occurred to my Titan due to same circumstances, brunt of impact received by a trailer hitch. I had the same tweaks in the back end of my frame. If you look close and get down level, you might see that it bowed the truck truck bed.

Long story short, they totaled my truck because they couldn't pull it straight. Supposedly, to get it returned to nissan specs, you can't heat and or hammer it out, it can only be cold pulled. Again, this is all coming from the body shop. The only repairs it looked like I needed initially was a new rear bumper and new passenger quarter (they could have straightened it out). But then they found the same thing, where te hitch attaches to the frame was bent up and in. They said they could hammer and pull it straight with heating, but that it wouldn't be rated per oem requirements to safely tow, all other daily uses would be fine.

No expert here and can only share what happened with my titan with my local body shop that is highly regarded as one of the top notch places in the Raleigh market.

Glad to hear the bed still lines up.
As for things working out for me .. well I'm out $300 due to a rule up here in Ontario concerning drivers with no insurance. My truck is back to new now with a new OEM bumper and hitch, with no other damage.
My insurance co. is going after him in court, and the cops are going after him in "traffic court" for dangerous driving and failing to have insurance. This dude is looking at a minimum of 5000 bucks in fines and numberous point deductions. So basically he is ****ed .. and i dont think i'll ever see my $300 bucks back.

WOW! That suxs man. And honestly, I hope they do total it.... there is a few options that I didnt have that I wish I did. So If the just buy me out, I can get the one I really want.

How long was your whole process from crash to check?

I have to say that your thread title is "wide open" to interpretations until you click in and read. :)

Seriously though, it's good you are alright and I hope everything works out with the truck.
It could have been a much worse scenario for you personally.
The truck can be fixed or replaced as was said.

Any way, I have searched the shlt outta this, and from what google tells me, it sounds like it go'en to the junk heap!

So.......

Do I get the same thing? Or go for the newer style and get an 09-10? This way my wheels whould swap over... and my spacers, suspension lift, and body lift....

What is your, "IMO"? On that? Same? Newer? Or bigger? (ie: Titan)

Be sure to discuss w/ insurance (or know the answer) the add ons you have, if they are covered, etc. If it gets totaled, it could be "totaled as it sits" meaning if you start pulling parts insurance won't be happy. It could be "totaled as stock" meaning you could pull added parts as long as truck is back to stock condition.

Accidents aren't fun. Sorry for the misfortune.

It was about 32 days. They tried really hard to pull it straight (about two weeks). They also spent a fair deal of time looking for a new frame. If they had been able to find a frame locally, they would have done it, but they said they could only find one at the time overseas and shipping would have been too much. Nissan won't allow a vehicle to be signed off on as rebuilt per oem spec if the donor frame was from a fire or flood loss vehicle, pretty much about the only time you would find an intact frame.

Again, the whole towing thing was the stickler. The body shop ended up buying the truck and I have seen it around town once or twice. They just don't tow anything. They transfer parts and people around town in it. It was a loaded 05 CC LE 4x4 Titan. If I didn't have to tow a 6k lb trailer for work, then I would have likely found a way to keep it (buy back from insurance).
