I just bought the blackmax about 4 hours ago. It turns out the place I ordered it from (I forget the name) has a warehouse about 1 hour from me so hopefully this weekend I can put it on.

Burley, how long did it take you to install? Also, how good of a seal does the cover give from water? I was thinking of buying an extang blackmax this weekend and want to put a carpet in the bed but do not want a mildew rag because the cover leaks.

by myself it only took bout 15-20 mins to take it out put together and slap on 3 clamps on each side. and as for keeping water out not sure havent had rain yet since i put it on but in my opinion i would say the only place you will have to worry bout water or anything getting in is around the tailgate on the bottom just cause the size of the factory gap

I came home from work today to find my blackmax on the door steps. It took me about a hour to put it on, it was cold and windy so that didnt help. I have to take it off to better position the clamps and add some extra of the padding under the bars but it looks nice. I havent driven with it but so far its nice.

How is the Black Max mounted?

I am considering a tonneau cover. Does it mount to the inside of the bed or does it cover the top of the sides of the bed? I want to get a rack to carry kayaks, but also want to cover the bed so gear does not get wet.

There are slips that hold the rail on the top of the sides. The cover covers about half of the side of the beds. The first photo you can see better.

Tonneau Cover

Just a thought . . . I purchased a tonneau cover from A.R.E. two weeks after I bought my '06 Frontier. You can see how the cover looks on several styles of Frontys on the company's website.

I'm happy with the product. The vendor provides a rear gasket seal to help keep water out when using those automatic car washers. I'll post some photos once the weather here improves.
