I have a large cold air return in my living room. This is near my front door which is not open very often (I dont know if this matters). Well my living room does not have a duct register currently and I am curious if 65" is too close to the cold air return for the placement of the duct register.

umm well i'm in that industry. not sure why you don't have any air registers in your living room. thats kinda crazy, just trying to figure out why an installer would design a home like that. but i don't think that is too close to the return. shouldn't be any kind of problem. hope it works out for ya.

can you locate a regestir near a window? Thats where you'll find them typically. Thats where alot of your heat loss can be found. The tstat isnt located near this new proposed register location is it?

It would be too much trouble. I Had to redo the duct for a bedroom and the line is already there all I have to do Is put a 90 on it and add some fittings on it and I will be done. I am just not sure if it would be too close to the cold air return. I will likely just go ahead and do it.

It really won't matter as all the air in the house eventually gets exchanged. If your concern is the proximity of the duct outlet, to the return, just put in a adjustable louvered outlet and direct the air away from the inlet.
