Alright, I want to install and intake and tuner. Ive put intakes on v8 gas motors, lots of deisels and some turboed 4 cyl, but never a 6. I have a brand new truck that is quiet inside. My duratracs are a little louder but I can deal with it. The other day my buddy and I installed am Air raid on his brand new trundra. Whenever the truck accelerated, even below 2k rms it was annoyingly loud. If you were to pass some one it sounded like a 400lb gorrila was kicked in the balls, honest. I know his was open, and those are louder than inclosed. We took the intake off that night. It kind of scared me away from them for th pat month or so. Ive installed plenty of intakes that arent annoying that are open. I dont want that to happen. I would prefer it sounds like it does stock untill I mash on it. Any suggestions? I was thinking volant at first.

P.S. Im like anyone else, I like going faster but I'm also cheap. (im not gonna spend $500 on some miracle intake)

What kind of CAI is it? I have had Air Raid and Nissmo/AEM. I have noticed under load that the intakes are loud but not a cruse speed. I had a Nissmo on my 05 frontier and loved it. And a Nissmo on my Titans and loved it. I dont mind the sound. I will be putting a Ingen and a Banks on after the wedding. Two more months till all the S++t is done and acant wait. If you do some looking and you can find used and also new for a better price.

^ same here. though the sound is quite louder than stock. i was worried that it was too loud and wake up my sleeping baby in the back - but that hasn't been the case.

I have a Volant aswell, it does let you know it's sucking the air in when you step on it, but to me it sounds so much better than the OEM Intake does, it does it with authority..It does have sweeter sound at cruise and idle than OEM, I don't find it annoying at all, quite the opposite, it makes you feel like your motor sounds..Here is a site with Volant product, both with oil or dry filter..Keep in mind the PowerCore, (alledgely) 100K mile dry filter is about average $100 after market..Check the site out for some decent price on the 2 choices, and free shipping too..

Thanks guys, it is an 09 and I know about the fitment issues and about the power core's liklelyhood to throw codes. Does anybody know of a closed box that is just as quiet if not quieter then volant.Example, AFE make some closed boxes but not for the 4.0. The only closed boxes to my knowledge is volant injen and stillen(fron intake sticky). Overall it soulnd like volant is the"favorite" anyone like the others?

I owned a volant for 2 days and sent it back due to fitment issues that should have been addressed a long time ago and miscellaneous grind mark over the tube. Then I decided to get the Stillen intake and have been very happy with it so far (not a lot of members here have it); I'll change out the filter to the amsoil brand or AEM when the K&N filter that came with it needs to be cleaned. I did "feel" a hp difference when I installed it and it has a nice deep growl when I get on it. Hope that helps

I have the K&N and like it. Had a Volant for a while but it didn’t fit right with my body lift I once had so I sold it. The Volant was definitely quieter for regular driving but I like how the K&N sounds at WOT.

Its my understanding that the Nissmo CAI is the same as the AEM Brute force. Airaid intakes are out there. Or are you just bustin my balls on spelling

Had a K&N, sounded good but too much air sucking noise. Almost like it had asthma. Got a Volant, sound was great. Nice an quiet until you step on it. Dispensed with that in favor of an INJEN. Similar quiet, slightly more air sucking noise (not as bad as the K&N) and the sound when you wind her up is excellent. All around very please with the INJEN.

I have the AFE Stage 2 and i absolutely love it, it gives a more throaty sound when under a load but not loud at all under normal driving conditions. Plus with the Cortex tuner i see great mileage (of course I have the banks exhaust too). I got mine at 4wheelparts.com when they were having one of their 20% off sitewide sales maybe check there, I think they may sell the other popular brands as well (k&n, air raid, volant, etc.) but i'm not sure so you will have to check. i have the nismo CAI and i luv it! cant even tell its there @ idle @about 2k rpm theres a slighty whistlin sound then just barely louder than stock after just enuff so i notice (which is a plus to me) then the thing sounds like a frickin F1 car when you stomp it and go WOT!

I have to Volant, can't tell it's there until I step on the gas and then I get a nice growly throaty sound that goes away once I'm coasting, I won't lie, I'm in love. The CAI on my friends GTI(I know it's different but it's also a v6) is an open box and much louder, sounds more like someone just inhaling really loud.
