I have the two map lights (push on/off). How easy is it to grab a 12v hot to feed a permanent mount radar detector?

I ran 12v up to that location. I believe the power for the lighting is controlled by switching ground, so the hot lead is hot all the time. (The radar detector would never turn off)...

Since I was running a new wire, I put a disconnect switch down by the hand brake, to discreetly turn it off if needed.

I'd run a dedicated "hot" wire from a fuse box location that is "hot" when the ignition has been switched on. I've done that on my own 2004 Frontier for the aftermarket cruise control.

Or maybe tap into the "red" wire to the stereo (the "yellow" is "always hot", for the stereo memory). Those are the universal stereo wire colors, of course Nissan may be different.

I hate wiring! Would rather herd cats, or count snakes in a bucket! Did I mention I hate wiring.

This is a better answer. The power that goes to those lights is always on (you can turn them on with the key off) You don’t want your radar detector to be always on.

A friend of mine does most of my wiring - believe he tapped into the center console receptacle wire in my 2nd Gen (key on only).

In my 1st Gen, I had tapped into the fuse panel but my friend didn't like that back then and used a clean key on only wire source.

For a clean look, add the mirror mount.

I don't really speed much these days (maybe 10 miles over the limit) but it does help in my local area where the police love to generate revenue......um......write tickets.

>:D

I can provide detailed pics / instructions if needed if interested in adding a auto dimming mirror from a junk yard Xterra. Tap power from mirror wiring harness. Shoot, I can reprocess (a.k.a. repossess....it's a Cheech and Chong reference) a mirror with all wiring and amb. air temp. sensor from a friend that asked me to get it for him if I ran across another. He failed to reimburse and it's not moved from its shelf in almost a year. 30+ years he and I have been friends. There would be no problems at all if I reprocessed it. If he frowned upon it I would merely have to mention how he was nearly responsible for my death when I was 14 years old...the very first time we had met no less.

Or you can just run a fused (add-a-circuit or inline) wire over to the pillar and down to a switched 12v source in the fuse box. Adding the autodimming mirror and tapping power for my R.D. is my 2nd most gratifying mod that I've done. #1 was the addition of my Hellwig rear anti sway bar.
