What title says. I just ordered a KMA wincher front bumper. I was thinking about the install.... And It got me thinking, for one I never notcee the air bag sensors. And then I was wondering, if the added streanth of a front bumper may not be desired in a crash.... As in it won't be soft enough to trip the air bag sensor.

Any one else think of this???

So for the slopy thread, I made it with my phone.

The sensors in the bumpers stopped years ago. Now they are inertia type sensors.

Here is a slightly related question - for all those that go off-roading, how do those bumps and rough-riding affect the airbag? I know the Taco has an "airbag off" option for off-roading, but I don't think there's anything like that on the Frontier, is there? I have the 2wd version, so I'm not going to be doing much offroading, just curious really. Thanks.

there is a crash zone sensor infront of your radiator behind the bumper and grill. SRS section of the service techs manual page 11. this is the sensor that has been recalled for frontier owners in "salt states" due to them failing from corrosion and the air bags failing to deploy. a better sealed one was made to take its place. for those that don't live in salt states they extended the warranty on the factory past the factory warranty. unless you have the side air bags that sensor is the only one in the truck, with side air bags you have sensors on each side of the truck too

np, i think if i remember right, i'm too lazy to go look at my truck, its a thin black box with 2 mounting bolts and a roughly 1.5 in wide plug on one side (i wanna say driver side of the box) and its mounted to the vertical support thats infront of the center of the radiator. or something like that.

Only ARB and TJM can say their bumper are compatible with airbags since they test crash them.

airbag off button in Toyotas turn off the side curtain airbags. This is done so they don't set off when the truck is off camber. Nissan should do this also.

if you dont mind not having airbags you can pull the airbag fuse i did so on my frontier when i started the build, but if you do pull it do not put it back in that will conect the current and deploy your bags. I know from experince not me but a buddy of mine took his fuse out when we got to the desert and once we headed home he stopped on the road to put the fuse back in
(due to nagging GF) and the bags went off. its was quite funny but not at the same time.

on a side note...

why did you decide to go with KMA? honestly, kyle (owner) was the worst person ive ever dealt with and his craftsmanship was terrable

he used to be an avid member on NOAS and then got banned from there, he was always the rudest person on that site

plus wasnt he the one where the bumper didnt fit on a nearly brand new truck and instead of fixing it he just said the truck had to of been in an accident?

idk, just wondering man

Well for one, I havent been in this game long enough to know that..... So thanks for telling me now! :)

I went with KMA mainly do to price and mostly due to time line. I dont care if the bumper is made out of Diamonds.... It should never take 6 months to get it. I will say the Shrock is my favorit looking bumper, but the $1000 price tag, killed it for me.

And I dont know anything about the bumper not fitting, like you said. All that is news to me.

What would my other options have been? I know ARB sells a bumper, but I dont want all that stuff on it. I wanted some thing as close to the Shrock as possible.

Any Ideas?

Arb

If you go to the ARB site they detail how the incorperate a CRUSH ZONE into the bumper to match the original specs. On mine it looks like the folds on an acordian.
