How do I know if it's going bad? I know they all are firm on 1-2-3 shifts. When mine goes into 4th, it's kind of hard to describe but it you can feel it "slide" into 4th. Kind of feels like an old Chrysler Torqueflite shift. Had the fluid flushed (149K). Trans shop thinks I need a rebuild but I think I will run it until it stops working. I guess I need to go try some other 1st gens on the sale lots and compare 'feel"?

check out ebay for low mile tranny costs and take a swap into consideration before you drop a couple hundos on a rebuild.

i don't know, its supposed to feel normal- but that depends on what your perception of normal is.
these trucks don't have tons of power, so you aren't going to feel a kick when going into fourth.
fourth is actually the overdrive, so its going to be a pretty smooth transition when you are at speed.
