The top pic is a sheared off heater core tube.
The second pic is a damaged coolant hose nipple, hard to tell from the pic, but most likely connects to the sheared off heater core tube.

So I managed to put it all back together and now it's having a really hard time starting. Do the plugs have anything to do with that? And when I gas it it just wants to bog out like it's not getting enough fuel

Are you sure you got the timing chains back on correctly? Sounds like perhaps the valves are not opening when they should.

How about some more info?
Year, engine, tranny....etc.

Also.... the reason for replacing the head gasket(s)?

Every bit of info you can provide can be extremely helpful.
