I was looking for a place to store stuff (ie air compresser, tow straps, foldable chairs etc)safely while going for a trail ride. I looked at bed boxes and found them heavy and expensive. I found this rubbermaid action packer box for $60. This and $4 of hardware let me mount it to the floor rails of the utilitrac. It slides for and aft if wanted. I used some extra, short utilitrac pieces I had for braces. Now I also have a place to store the cleats. It's lockable and can be removed in 5 minutes. Thoughts? What has others done?

not waterproof. the handles/latched leak. i have the 8gal in the back of my truck and drilled a couple of holes in the low spots to allow the little bit of water that gets in there to drain.

I just looked online at the rubbermaid containers. How many gallons is your size?

depending on your local walmart they may have them in stock. the 3 local to me dont but the one down near my SIL/BIL did have them.

Looks good. For now I am using a plastic tub with a cargo bar positioned to prevent it from sliding all over the place. Not secured to the bed, but it barely moves around. Makes hauling groceries easy as I only need to make one trip in the house unless I fill up the shopping cart (God I am so domesticated). All my straps, handful of tools, and the hitch are in there as well. Basically, it condenses my junk to one area that I can put in the cab if I need the bed for big stuff.

rubbermaid action packer

44.75 x 20.937 x 17.687 The 48 gallon size. Found it at WalMart.

Cool.. the color even sorta blends.

I've thought of using a 150qt. cooler back there.. ain't too "portable" when it's loaded with gear n' beer.
It will blend even better when I get some plastic paint and at the very least paint that red handle black or gray. I might even paint the whole thing one color.

I put a 55 Gal container in mine just like that. What I did is just drilled holes through the bottom and put bolts through with big washers and ran them through the rails. I have a lock on the box so nobody can steel my photography equipment, if the tail gate is locked, they will have a hella hard time getting my whole box out. Great ideas for making the best use of the bed on the cheap!

Yes it sits just below the rim. Your cover should fit no problem. I posted the listed demensions in an earlier post. It sits flat and level. I used 3/8 " x 2" bolts. 1/2" fender washers fit in the utilitrac. I used 1 per side then used a flat piece of metal to hold it down. I personally had some extra pieces of utilitrac that i got when I bought a used bed extender

Home Depot sells a spring loaded nut that is made to hold conduit and other hangers/items to a similar styled track if you ever have the need for an alternate choice to the washers.

Just putting this out there. I have a similar set-up.

I used the SMART box that is sold in the auto department of WalMart. It has 4 flat feet that just happened to line up directly with the bottom utilitrac. I used 4 spring nuts, 4 bolts/washers to bolt it down. It also have a lock option and is waterproof. It is also very easy to remove if needed.

The height is also a good thing since it is just under the bed rails. I think the box ended up costing 50 bucks and then 5 in hardware and 30 mins to align everything and drill. Its a very cheap storage solution.

I used mine for a road trip from FL to NC and back over the holidays and my luggage was fine. I also reloaded it with a ton of rocks for the ride back and it held up fine (luggage in the back seat since there was no presents anymore).
