Hi all,

I recently noticed that there's a periodic hissing sound coming from the gas cap on my 2016 Frontier. It doesn't happen all the time, and seems to happen more frequently in warmer weather. If I unscrew the gas cap, it will stop, but then the next time I drive the truck, it happens again. Does this indicate that there's a problem with the gas tank venting the gas vapors properly, or is there some bigger issue I should be worried about? The truck still runs fine, it's just this periodic hissing sound that has me somewhat worried.

Sounds like your gas cap isn't sealing properly.

In some states, they actually check the cap for leaks, as part of a yearly inspection.

Actually, it's working just like it's supposed to. There is a vent built into the cap that release pressure once it exceed 0.5 PSI. My R51 Pathfinders due the same thing.
