don't see anything as to whether you have a manual or an automatic (being a 2.5)
Auto, things I have heard is changing after a long period of not doing it can be detrimental, cause slipping etc. as described above.
However if it's a manual (since you called it oil, not fluid) , then new gear oil is a good thing.
