Hi,
Newbie here. I am an Engineer here at the Nissan production plant in Smyrna, TN where your Frontier was built. I have owned many Nissans over the years but this is the first time I have ran across this site. Glad I did! Seems as though many aftermarket and auto part related companys never carry products for our Nissans so I'm thinking the time here will be well spent with the combined experience of ownership on this site.

Thanks for accepting my registration and I will do everything in my power to help anyone I can. I'm not an expert by any means but I do know a few things and the resources I have here at Nissan may be useful to someone.

Currently Own:
2001 Frontier, SE, Desert Runner, 152K.
2004 Xterra, SE, 4x4, 128K.

Thanks Discover - Yeah, I know what you are talking about with Italian equipment. Been there done that! They use international symbols on thier prints that made me have to relearn a few things. Seemed like everything worked backwards to the way it should have. The German machines aren't much better. Japanese equipment is not as bad although some things are backwards to the way we would do them they are still pretty easy to understand. :)
Roger that! Italian seemed to be 'where it was at' in the shoe industry during my time there. Those symbols...yeah. I transitioned over into the I.T. business after 2002 and now work as a Network Engineer.
Cool! One of the many facets of my job is Networking. Within the last year we have installed a manufacturing network in our plant and have connected over 100 devices to it including PLC's, PC's, Robots and many other ethernet capable devices. I hope you enjoy this work, I sure do!

BigJohn.

Process Engineer in Body Shop where the vehicles body is welded together. We make the Titan, Armada, and some of the Altimas in Canton. We are getting ready to go into production on a large commercial van.

bigjohn, I actually applied at Smyrna after graduating back in 93, but didn't get any bites. So when they announced the Canton plant in 00, I threw my name in the hat again. And the rest, as they say,,,
Hey Guys, I've been out of the loop for a while.

If anyone has a question for me please PM me so I can keep track of them. I will do my very best to answer each one even if the answer is "I don't know". If you have submitted a question in a thread please send a PM.

Best Wishes,

Bigjohn.
When I toured the plant back in 2006 we got talk to the techs afterwards. I asked about the crushed Y pipe on the crossover pipe on the exhaust. They said it didn't hurt the preformance. Alot of us here think othewise. Lot's of us put on aftermarket full port Y's on our Frontiers. I'm not a engineer by no means but I have heard of catalytic converter going bad on some. Maybe it's on the side that is pinched that is not get the full flow. Why can't Nissan spend a couple more $'s to put a full port Y crossover pipe on. Thanks

Hello bigjohn1139!

I lived in Smyrna when my dad was stationed at Sewart Air Force Base (many moons ago). I went to Thruman Francis Jr. High and really enjoyed the few years we had in that area. He was transfered to New Hampshire and somehow we stayed in New England (which I love) but I'd really enjoy visiting the area again. I picked up my 2011 SV V6 long bed crew cab last Friday and have to say I'm really enjoying the truck and I get a warm, fuzzy feeling everytime I get behind the wheel. I can't believe a pick up truck can have such an incredibly smooth ride. Many of my coworkers have a fascination with Fords and have given me a little crap about not buying American. I remind them about all the good folks in Smyrna who build these great vehicles. Anyway I look forward to your future postings.

Welcome to you, you're Tennessee built Nissan is more American built than other so called American brand trucks out there. Your truck body, engine and many other parts were built HERE. Tell your co-workers to stuff it. Dodge is built in mexico and they are now Italian (fiat) owned so dodge isn't American and prior to that was german owned so still not a USA company. Americans in TN spend their pay checks here not in mexico.
