I went with Doug Thorley short tube headers. Reason I chose them over the JBA is the Thorley’s are made in the USA. With the right tools and know how the install is fairly easy. I did the drivers side first and it took about 6hrs. The passenger side took 4 hrs. I also went to headers because my driver side exhaust manifold cracked on me twice.

If you're going top spend that kind of money, I would also recommend the Doug Thorley's as they seem to be constructed a little better. I have the DT shorties and mid-pipes on my 2006 Pathfinder. I also replaced the main muffler with a Magnaflow 12580. To be honest, I didn't feel any gain in performance and the gas mileage stayed the same. It is a lot louder now, but that's more to do with the muffler and elimination of the secondary converters. Maybe an improvement would have showed up if a did a before and after dyno run, but no noticeable gain was made. The factory exhaust manifolds actually are a header design, but as mentioned, they can crack. The hardest part is getting the heat shield off on the right bank. Technically, to remove it, you are supposed to unbolt the motor mount and raise the engine up, but you can get it out if you leave the mount alone and cut the shield into pieces and pull them through one at a time.

Headers aren't worth the headaches they cause unless its a full race vehicle non-street legal.
kind of....

Unless they are an equal length long tube, then, you are just basically installing a tube style exhaust manifold and should expect no real gains but now you will have more noise and possible leaks.

The Doug Thorley short tube headers paired with my Gibson cat back exhaust, did not make the truck that much louder. A tad bit louder than stock.

Yeah, the DT shorters are pretty stout. As thick as the pipes they use are, I don't think they are any louder at all compared to stock. And since you don't need the exhaust shields, they may even be quieter! Leaks aren't an issue, either.

Just for comparison, Doug Thorley's are ceramic coated, have a lifetime warranty and $300 less.

Their shorty headers are direct replacements; I have them on my 2006 Pathfinder...as well as DT mid-pipes which eliminate the post-converters. To be honest, though, the factory manifolds are a header-style design and I while I never put it on a dyno, I felt very little gain after installing the headers, mid-pipes and even replacing the stock muffler with a Magnaflow 12580, which eliminates the "Y". Unless you are doing cams and extensive engine work, I really don't think it's worth it. Now, if the factory manifolds start cracking or break, then it would make a better case to install aftermarket headers.

Bingo. This forum has nugs of wisdom that I like to store in my wee brain.

W/ a performance tune, the long tube headers make their own sense...BUT these come w/ a plethora of other issues including O2/oxygen sensor relocating & crapload of rasp to contain.

headers ARE surely an improvement with the related PIA installation depending on your trucks age + corrosion typical of the fasteners! they are ALL the same 400 series stainless that WILL corrode like all OE exhausts that use the same. Doug T may be better but i never had luck on coatings but they were on mild steel + cast headers. 300 grade stainless is where its at, 10 years + 200 thou miles on my vw jetta exhaust + although discolored as 300 stainless does they still pull apart, but $$$$ is why. if needed i would opt for Doug T, having his nice for the price cat-back on my truck. only an 11 + less than 30 thou when bought all fasteners needed to be cut off + the small but very tough studs in the CAT were a real PIA!! all headers unless overly big increase torque + mpgs for sure, properly built long tube headers are the best but fitment $$$ + legality for some can be an issue + of course 304 or better 300 grade stainless!

The Doug Thorley's are pretty well built. The instructions did say the coating may turn dull in color after exposed to the heat of the exhaust, but mine have been on for at least 3-years and they still look the way they came out of the box. They have a pretty decent warranty, as well:

thats surely a good thing as they are listed as steel-ceramic coated not even cheaper 409 stainless like magnablow uses. they are out of stock from doug T but listed on other sites i did not check. living in the rust belt exhausts take a salt beating + have shorter lives than other drier areas. with 300 series stainless it matters NOT as it outlasts the vehicle but if available is more $$$. a plus for stainless live ceramic coatings is more heat in the pipe not under the hood!!
