I just bought a 2003 Frontier XE for my daughter. During the day, the speedometer and gauges are hard to see. If the sun is shining in over the driver's shoulder, they are ok, but other than that, they are extremely hard to impossible to see. Wearing sunglasses while driving is out of the question! Anyone else have this problem? I have researched here and elsewhere, but all I have found are posts about dim lighting at night. Is there a trick to getting the gauges more visible during daylight driving?

I think i would try a deep cleaning, polishing the lenses, almost like a headlight, except by hand. I'm wondering if maybe there is a after market tint or something, that the previous owner put on, for some reason.

Hmm, can't say I had any complaints over the 10 yrs in my '00 XE. In fact, I'll say I preferred the Gen 1 dash setup in that the speedo/tach were much easier to read. I'm wondering if the clear plastic in front of the gauges has been cleaned too many times? I can how it might/would scratch up pretty fast if not cleaned w/ care. So...perhaps that clear plastic could/might need replacing?

Is the dimmer wheel turned all the way to brightest setting?

I'm with you on that. My windows are (illegally) tinted, I'm not sure on the % but it's very dark. That exacerbates the dim gauges, I really need to look into an LED conversion. Is there a how-to thread around here anywhere?
