Some dumba** tried to break into my 02 frontier with a hammer and a screwdriver this weekend. Thankfully, he wasn't able to unlock the door, but he did manage to mangle my lock and door in the process.

The lock is unusable, but i think the door will be fine with a little bit of bending. Where is the cheapest place to go to get this kind of thing fixed? Auto mechanic? Locksmith? Dealer? Does anyone have any experience with this kind of happening? I tried calling around and got quotes from 175-250.

I am pretty good at fixing my truck and other things, so I was curious if any of you have ever done a DIY lock replacement?

All advice is much appreciated! I am trying to save as much as possible.

I never did this procedure on a nissan but what I had my 2001 audi s4 it got broken in to 3 times. I've gone to the dealer every time and ordered a replacement lock. It had to be special ordered to match my key directly from Germany ($27/lock, not bad). After third break-in i just replaced the door handle with the one that does not have the key hole.

not sure if you can order a lock keyed for your truck. if you cant you can buy the lock and take it to a locksmith and he can key it to your truck.

I think I am just going to end up replacing the whole door. The area around the lock is so torn up that I dont think a new lock would stay in because the metal around it is so jacked up. I have found a few places online selling a door "skin", but I'm not sure what that means. Any sugestions of the best part to buy and the best place?

Dumb question, since you have mod access, can you fix the subtitle on the Equator subforum? It says "Nissan Equator" instead of "Suzuki Equator" in the forum byline listing.

I looked and see it just listed as equator. I’m not sure if I’d even be able to rename a section.

Even though the reply was a decade late @Andrewriddle is correct IMO. I'd get a door lock key cylinder from a JY 1st Gen Xterra or Frontier and swap out the tumblers.
